School Days - Chuck Berry

It's back to school time as everyone knows, summer is almost over and it'll be time to hit the books (unless you're like me and you have been taking classes throughout the summer). Well it's one commercial I SWEAR Mr. Alan's (it's an outlet store here in Michigan best known for it's '$25 or 2 for $50' deals) shows EVERY year during Back to School time. Thing is the commercial was shot in 1998, so over 11 year ago, and is extremely outdated. Also, it just so happens to star my older cousin Isaac and his friend Darryll, and every year during this time I ask him to say THE line:: Want to Get the Girl? See the Man (he never says it BTW). Anyway I haven't seen it yet, but I thought it was perfecto for this season. Remember: This Mr. Alan's commercial?

Yay or Nay: Choosing You - J.R. Get Money

FACT: Detroit has talent, not only does the city have talent on the mic but behind it as well. I received this track today from Detroit's own Tim Bosky (he along with Bei Maejor produced Chrisette Michele's "On My Own" off of her 'Epiphany' album). The joint is by this guy from Atlanta by way of New Orleans, J.R. Get Money. He's roughly 21, and he's signed to T.I.'s Grand Hustle Records and Universal Motown. His mixtape 'Stamped and Certified Vol. 1' was released back in March of this year, and from the way I understand it J.R. is currently in the studio working on another project. Whether it's an album or mixtape, I don't know yet. With T.I. locked up J.R. is truly on his grand hustle. Yay or Nay: Choosing You - J.R. "Get Money"

Musical Massacre - Eric B. & Rakim

I'm trying something new here and that is, at least once a week I will present you with something, an event, person, album, that took place during that week's dates in hip-hop history. The first one I'm doing took place July 25, 1988 and it was the release of THE most influential rap duo, Eric B. & Rakim's 'Follow The Leader.' The album was the follow up to their debut turned classic album 'Paid in Full.' 'Follow The Leader' included some of the most influential rap tracks including the albums lead single 'Follow the Leader', "Microphone Fiend" and "Lyrics of Fury."
The duo blew up during hip hop's Golden Age with their single "Eric B. is President," which also started some kind of tiff between them and Marley Marl who claims he produced the record but was never given attribution. The duo split in the early 90's after they each wanted to pursue solo albums, however Eric B. did not want to be relieved from their contract because his biggest worry was Rakim wouldn't remain as part of the duo. But Eric B. & Rakim split on ok terms, no harsh words were exchanged and according to them majority of the strain was coming from the labels.
This Week in Hip-Hop history: Eric B. & Rakim - "Follow The Leader" Classic.

Movies - Ashanti

Ok, so I dislike Tyler Perry's House of Payne, but I rock with his plays. Seeing as he is turning all his plays into movies I like some of them too. His last film, Madea Goes to Jail, was released in February and Perry is prepping for the Sept. 11 release of another movie: I Can Do Bad By Myself. This is the movie version to the play of the same name, but you know Tyler Perry plays, the plot is a little different than it's onstage counterpart. It stars Taraji P. Henson as April, an aspiring singer and alcoholic, who ends up with the responsibility of raising her sister's three children. Some other stars include singing legends, Mary J. Blige and Gladys Knight and of course Tyler Perry as Madea. Peep the trailer below.

Bonnie and Clyde '03 - Jay-Z feat. Beyoncé

I'm over on Necole Bitchie's blog and I saw this picture and freaking loved everything about it. Mr. & Mrs. S. Carter were spotted shopping in New York. I'm loving Beyoncé's bright yellow Yves Saint Laurent "Tribute" platforms..(I may not show it but I KNOW brands). Anyway, how Classic status is this picture? You would think it was for an ad of some sort, but this is just them. They are indeed the sugar honey iced tea.

Remember: Hustle & Flow

So I've been thinking about this for a minute and have always forgotten to post it. Sometimes when people ask me how things are going I have the tendency to answer "It's hard out here for pimp." Wack, Lame, yes I know, but I remember when 3 6 Mafia won an Oscar for this record and how utterly disappointed I was in America. As easy and cliché as that saying has become there was another song in the movie that was just as popular and personally my favorite from that movie: "Whoop That Trick" ... lol enjoy.

*The worst movie in history and Terrance Howard's curls = ultimate fail.

School Spirit - Kanye West

If only you could understand how much I have learned about the people and things happening in the city of Detroit. One of these is upcoming brand Freshman Clothing. I actually saw the designers Phil and Eric at 3 Days B4 Fame as well as some of their designs. Well, one of my favorite people I have met this year, Juan Neal linked up with the designers for this vid.

Street Hustlers Thoughts - Juelz Santana

Stephon Marbury aka #8 Most Hated in Sports bka Starbury. What Can I say? If you haven't seen this video, watch it first before continuing reading.

Here's the background information: Marbury has been streaming live 24/7 for the past few days. He has gone hyphy to Beyonce's Ring the Alarm, discussed his love for Drake, prayed, cried, yelled, everything on this livestream.

Am I the only one that notices he not only clearly chooses to play the song, but he also cries before it even fully plays. Is this a cry for attention? (no pun intended) I mean, why else would someone want to broadcast themselves crying to the world? Especially a male NBA player? *He has also been deemed the #8 most hated person in sports*. Now that his viewership is up, I wonder what else he's going to do. I personally believe he's going to say he's getting a television show. Now if it happens, please remember I said it first!

Rising Up - The Roots

Maybe you've seen the commercials on BET about it's new show "Rising Icons". Do you know that BET, Complex, and Grey Goose have a contest for Local Rising Icons? If you didn't know that, then I bet you REALLY didn't know that two of Detroit's own (and favorites) Big Sean and DJ Mo Beatz are both in the running for this, I guess, honor. The winner gets to share the stage with the likes of Chrisette Michele, Keri Hilson and The Dream on the Sept. 8, BET special. Now here's the tough part, picking your favorite between the two. Shadyville's DJ Mo Beatz spins for FM 98 WJLB, has DJ'ed around the world and just so happens to be Big Sean's DJ. Now Big Sean is signed to Kanye's G.O.O.D. Music Label and Island Def Jam and he just released the official video for his buzz single "Getcha Some." I guess if you're really determined you can use two different computers and multiple e-mails to vote. They are the only two representing Detroit and in my personal opinion they BOTH deserve the opportunity.

Buzzin' - Shwayze

I've been meaning to post this vid. for a minute, but yeah never got around to it. Meet Buzz, 17-years-old, cameraman to the Juan Neal "Leaving Fli Pelican" announcement video and soon to be blogging over on Juan's blog, and apparently he's a rapper. Here he's doing bars of Glenwood (the Kanye, Big Sean collabo). Should he have tackled it?

On The Hotline - Pretty Ricky

♫ The most interesting tour of the summer kicked off yesterday. America's Most Wanted Tour starring: Lil' Wayne, Young Jeezy, Soulja Boy, Drake, Jeremih, and Nicki Minaj (?). Yes, Nicki Lewinsky has been added to the tour and Drake's set has been cut short according to XXL. Due to Drake's knee injury (he tore his ACL right before the BET Awards, which is why he sat during the performance) his doctor's and tour managers decided it was best to cut his set short so he could make it through the North American tour. It's scheduled to hit cities all over the U.S. and Canada as well and tickets are on sale through Ticketmaster. It will come to Detroit August 30 at DTE Energy Music Theatre in Clawson, Michigan.

♫ Rapper/actor extraordinaire Q-tip is planning a posthumous (after death) birthday party for the late king of pop Michael Jackson. 'Long Live The King' will take place August 29, at the Nokia Theatre in Times Square, New York. In a press release the Q-Tip (who is also DJing the event) said:
Michael Jackson was a huge influence on my music and was an inspiration to me and so many others. I want to bring people together to celebrate the man, his music and his legacy that will undoubtedly live on forever!

Tickets can be purchased via Ticketmaster and are on pre-sale for $25 with a limit of 6 tickets per credit card/person.

♫ Back in 2007, Ja Rule released "Uh-Oh" feat. Lil' Wayne and that was supposed to be the first single off his 8th studio album, The Mirror. Well two years later we finally get it. MTV reports that The Mirror: Reloaded is slated to be released online (no date has been set yet). How can something be reloaded if it never dropped? Well after the cancellation of his original release dates, Ja went BACK into the studio and recorded an entirely new album.

Yay or Nay: Warning - The Clipse

I remember back when I was in middle school the boys on my block used to have little rap battles and the one beat that EVERYone always went off of was "Grindin" by The Clipse. (probably because it was so simple it was cold as ice! lol). The Clipse are one of the most underrated rap duos out there and they are scheduled to release their new album, 'Till the Casket Drops' this fall. Not only are they rappers, they're designers as well and Play Cloths is doing fairly well on the urban streetwear market.Back the matter at hand, tell me how you feel about their new track – Yay or Nay: "Warning" - The Clipse.

For my Detroit readers, The Clipse will be performing at St. Andrews Hall August 23, 2009 @ 7 p.m. alongside Detrago (or Chitroit)'s The Cool Kids with Big Sean and Ro Spit as openers. Tickets are $22.50 and can be purchased from LiveNation.com, Burn Rubber Sneaker Boutique in Royal Oak, DSE @ Grand in Downtown Detroit, and Motivation Boutique in Ann Arbor.

Flashback: I'm Real - J. Lo and Ja Rule

Back in 2003 ( I believe it was '03, maybe '02) when Jennifer Lopez aka J to the L-O discovered her urban side, my best friend and I loved her (lol). She came out with her remix CD that featured the likes of Ja Rule, Fat Joe and Diddy. This is by far her most famous(hood wise anyway) song, it features the ultimate early 2000 collab artist, Ja Rule. There was a lot of controversy surrounding this song because Jennifer Lopez used the 'N'- word and the hip-hop world had her back (Ja Rule actually wrote the song). Flashback to: I'm Real - J.Lo and Ja Rule.

Thank God I'm Famous - Lil' Wayne

You saw my post about the weekend-long event, 3 Days B4 Fame, that was hosted/sponsored by Get Fresh Society, USR, Karmaloop, WJLB, and among others. Well I got this in my e-mail today from the homie Young Scolla, and it's a video that Binks – of Top Joint Studios and the other writer on Scolla's Word – put together of Day 1, Fashionbly Late. Check it Out.

Music Video: Getcha Some - Big Sean

By know you should have some idea as to who Big Sean is, and if you have been around me you know this song in particular because it has been my ringtone for the past couple of months. I first heard "Getcha Some" back in '07 when Finally Famous: The Mixtape was released and the final cut version with the release of UKnowBigSean. This video, his first one, was directed by Hype Williams and after several, several pushbacks finally released tonight at 9p.m. on his website. It reminds me of Kanye's "Good Life" video, what do you all think? Definitely a great look for Detroit. Without further adieu, Big Sean's "Getcha Some".

My Baby Daddy - B-Rock and The Bizz

Besides being completely and utterly plastered, Nas announces the name of his son with Kelis against her wishes, his name is Knight. He clearly didn't know any better and was drunk out of his mind, but he announced it during his trip to Queensbridge projects. He also performed at the barbeque.

I am Not My Hair - India.Arie : Solange Knowles

So I'm guessing in Hollywood, women are trying to out ridiculous each other. The latest scissors victim? Solange Knowles. Now I love Solange as a singer, she's mad talented and Hadley Street Dreams is the shiz, but IDK what she was thinking. I mean I would've expected an outrageous color, or some strange cut....but she went Amber Rose. Maybe there should be a petition started to keep Amber Rose's picture out of salons and stopping women from doing this and keeping the "Amber Rose" strictly limited to Amber Rose.

Baby Mama - Fantasia: Kelis

Some good news comes out of the Nas v. Kelis battle: a healthy baby boy. It was announced today that the bossy singer delivered a baby boy at a New York hospital. However it wasn't all a joyous occasion as Nas –legendary rapper and soon to be Kelis' ex husband– was NOT allowed to be there for the baby's delivery (according to MTV News UK). No word as to why this was, could be because of the ugly divorce going on between them or he's still mad Kelis is asking for $20K a month in maintenance (Not including child support) This is Kelis' first child and Nas' second (but first son). No information on the name and other stats have been released about the new boy.

Throwback: Supersonic - J.J. Fad

If I could pick any decade to live in, it would be a tie between 1950's Europe (for the styles/fashion) and 1980's Urban America for the emergence of what we know as hip hop. Now, this is a throwback, one of those songs I can't flashback too because I wasn't born when it first came out, but I learned to love it. Back in middle school I did a research paper on female MC's and came across J.J. Fad. If you listen to Old School Sunday's, your parents, or maybe you actually remember you'll remember their smash single. (that still gets played by me) So Throwback: "Supersonic" - J.J. Fad.

Chicken Noodle Soup - DJ Webstar

*Chicken Noodle Soup, Chicken Noodle Soup, Chicken Noodle Soup with a soda on the side*

I'm on Facebook and Shannon posts the link to this video of a banned German Sprite ad. It appears to be a White woman performing fellatio on a Black man. If it's too hot for Germany then you KNOW Sprite messed up. I'm quite sure this video offended SOMEBODY out there in the world. I don't understand why the marketers/advertisers at Sprite would even think this would be a remotely good way to do an ad. Like the guy says at the end..What about the CHILDREN?

Sorry 200(9) - Reuben Studdard

Several months later Chris Brown has issued a public apology about the situation via his YouTube page. How do you all feel about it?

Big Momma Thang - Lil' Kim

When I was about 5 or 6, Lil' Kim and Lil' Cease released their video for their classic "Crush on You." I loved that video and wanted to be Lil' Kim because her hair matched her furs (times have def. changed). Well this past week, Nelson Mandela celebrated his 91st birthday and a lot of blogs have been talking about what Lil' Kim was wearing and how great she looked, etc. I was on Necole Bitchie's blog and she posted this video (that I hadn't seen) from Nelson Mandela's birthday bash. Lil' Kim is singing with probably one of my favorite 80's pop stars Cyndi Lauper. Yes SINGING. She does so a tad off-key, but whatever. They're performing Cyndi Lauper's 1985 classic "Time After Time" I freaking love that joint. Anyway, peep the video below.

Yay or Nay: Right Hand Hi - Kid Sister

Kid Sister made quite a buzz for herself with the release of her single "Pro Nails" feat. Kanye West. She has dropped a few tracks here and there including, my personal favorite, "Switchboard." The Chicagoan has been in the studio working on her much anticipated album; it's scheduled to be released this fall. If I could describe Kid Sister, I would say she's a mix of M.I.A. and Lady Gaga with a lot of hip-hop (well, more hip-hop) sprinkled on top. She recently released her first single off her upcoming album 'First Ladies'. Yay or Nay: Right Hand Hi.

Flashback: Area Codes - Ludacris

I follow both Jay Electronica and radio personality Angela Yee on Twitter and they were talking about different Area Codes. Now this song has been in my head for a minute, so I just felt the need to post it. Flashback to: Area Codes - Ludacris.

Piano and I - Alicia Keys

Asher Roth, Kid Cudi, B.o.B, and 88-Keys came to Metro Detroit this past Saturday as Royal Oak Music Theatre was one of the tour stops. Well Burn Rubber Sneaker Boutique hosted a meet-and-greet that afternoon with 88-Keys. 88-Keys is a producer/rapper who has worked with musicians such as Blackstar, Consequence, Kindred the Family Soul, Kanye West and Kid Cudi. He released his debut album, Death of Adam, in 2008 and it received good reviews from the likes of HipHopDX.com, Vibe, and New York Daily News. Well, I didn't go to the meet-and-greet, but the homie Cliff Skighwalker interviewed 88 about life on tour. Introducing, 88-Keys.

Yay or Nay: Getting Down (Hoodrats) - NGC

Nitty Gritty Committee is supposed to be releasing their mixtape this fall. Well Young Slapz sent me three of their tracks from the studio this past weekend. They re-did "Cash Out" and yes took your advice and dumped the chick on the chorus (if she's reading this, lo siento). One of the tracks sent stood out to me the most and it's called "Getting Down (Hoodrats)" (I have to admit that some of the lines are stuck in my head) 'Nuff said, Yay or Nay: Hoodrats - NGC

July 19, 2009

Yay or Nay: Money - Phatboy Chef

Phatboy Chef was featured on the 101 track Victory 2009, and I must admit this was my first time hearing of him (I'm sorry I'm just really getting into the MI hip hop scene, sue me). But even the bars he did on that track were dope. Cliff posted a track off of his upcoming mixtape 'Chop Suey' on his blog the other day called "Cognac" and I was feeling that, so when Cliff leaked another of Phatboy's tracks i had to yank it and post it on here. So Yay or Nay: "Money" - Phatboy Chef.

July 18, 2009

A Matter of Time - Mike Posner

So I'm on the homie Scolla's blog and he made this attention grabbing and kind of exciting post. Apparently Mike Posner (YES, the same Mike Posner who I have talked about countless of times on this blog and interviewed for MichiganHipHop.com) has signed a deal with J Records/Sony. How cool is that? The news comes via his interview with Mogul Monologues. Big Ups to Mike, he deserves it talented artist and producer and you all should definitely be on the look out for him. IF you don't have his mixtape 'A Matter of Time' you should download it FREE off of iTunes. Congrats to him.

Flashback: Beyoncé

Little Known Fact: I was a HUGE Destiny's Child fan..I'm talking early Destiny's Child BEFORE The Writing's on the Wall back when they only had No,No,No (the slow one) out and Beyoncé had her natural hair color. LeToya, LaTavia, Kelly, and of course Beyoncé. Like Many people even after Bey went solo I still bumped to "Crazy in Love" and "Diva". Tonight in Detroit is the Beyoncé concert. I'm not going (booo) but it's only right that today's Flashback be a look at Beyoncé through the years. Soooo Flashback: Beyoncé.

♪ At Rock The Bells, Outkast member Big Boi debuted some of his new music from his up and coming album. Well, according to reports by XXL, Big Boi has left Jive Records and will be joining the Def Jam roster. Apparently, Big Boi became annoyed with the several pushbacks made on his album Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty. All the i's haven't been dotted nor have all the t's been crossed, but pretty soon Big Boi will be BACK with his former boss LA Reid (Reid signed Outkast to LaFace Records back in the day). Outkast is also scheduled to release a new album in the upcoming year.

Tony Yayo thinks The Game is making a big mistake my dissing Jay-Z. The G-Unit rapper told MTV:
They got too much money. Dudes got sniper money. You gotta chill. I chill. You gotta leave them kinda dudes alone. That's how I look at it.

Don't know what's going down (you may not have been to Juan's blog lately) but The Game dissed Jay-Z and Mrs. Knowles-Carter (Beyoncé for the slower ones) at a concert in Madrid because he was upset that Jay had supposedly said something about him in a song. This beef is nothing new and has been going on for a few years and at a recent concert Hov shut The Game down with one line at his July 7th show in Chicago:
"I ain't talking about gossip, I ain't talking about Game, I ain't talking about Jimmy, I ain't talking about Dame."

♪ It's no secret that a few rappers have ghostwriters, but did you expect Snoop Dogg to say he had one (or several)? Yup. Snoop told XXL that for his upcoming project, Malice in Wonderland, he was going to speaking through the mouths of babes.
I got a couple of my little homies that’s putting the pen to the paper. I be letting my homies get on by writing and expressing they thoughts through me. I be letting them have opportunities to be a star through me.

Honestly, I can't help but wonder about some of his past projects. To me rappers and writers go together like oil and vinegar, they don't mix. However, I'm sure there are loads of rappers with ghostwriters...I think I'd rather not know.

T.I.'s Re-release of Paper Trail has been shelved. According to MTV, Paper Trail: Case Closed, will never be released. However according to an Atlantic rep the additional tracks will be released digitally, probably via iTunes. T.I. is currently serving a jail sentence of 1 year and 1 day but recently released his video for "Remember Me" featuring Mary J. Blige.

I am Not My Hair - India.Arie

Rihanna has a become sort of a hair trendsetter since she first cut her long locks when her third album, Good Girl Gone Bad, debuted. Well recently the Umbrella singer rocked a new 'do. It seems like she wanted to pull an Amber Rose but decided that pulling a Cassie would suffice. I have no idea what they're calling it now besides a cry for help. What do you think? Can she pull it off because she's Rihanna? Would you rock it? Has she gone completely bonkers?

Yay or Nay: Ima Be Alright - Big Shan feat. Kristen Nichole

So I got an e-mail! lol From a singer this time, by the name of Kristen Nichole and it had this track she she was featured on by Big Shan. Some of you may have heard this before because it dropped earlier this year. (I don't care though I'm still posting it :P ). From the way I understand both artists are doing big things and getting ready to drop soon. Word around town is Big Shan's 'Big Shan vs. Bei Maejor' is supposed to be coming sometime within the next month or two. Kristen is currently working on a few things herself. Safe to say I don't think they're going to be disappearing anytime soon. That being said, Yay or Nay: "Ima Be Alright" - Big Shan feat. Kristen Nichole.

I'm Good - Fly.Union

"I'm Good" - Fly.Union

So I just did a post on them yesterday right? Well I'm doing another one darn it. Fly.Union released their "Value Pack" today. It's not exactly a mixtape because there are four tracks on it. (at first I thought maybe I lost a few tracks while downloading but I double-checked...there are only four). I believe it's the first in a series of Value Packs released by the Clevelanders, but it's dope nonetheless. It includes "Poed Up" (which was posted yesterday) featuring Big Sean and a remix of Clipse's "I'm Good".

I personally believe the Midwest is about to be what the South was a few years ago and what Nelly/Chingy attempted to make the Midwest nearly a decade ago. Anyway, I cosign them, I dig them, you should download this.

Yay or Nay: Victory 2009 - 101 feat. Fatt Father and Phatboy Chef

"Victory" by Biggie Smalls is not my favorite song by the notorious rapper, but it is my favorite beat that he has rapped on. I got this song in my inbox today and it's by 101, now you may be thinking you haven't heard the name 101 before or that you don't know any of the guys but you'll be lying to yourself. Marvwon, (who so nicely dissed Charles Hamilton sending him into static shock), Ro Spit (the artist formerly known as Octane and 1/2 of Burn Rubber) and Ron Dance (sales manager over at District 81 more recently turned actor) all make up this Detroit rap super trio. Throw on Fatt Father and Phatboy Chef and you have these bars on a B.I.G. classic. Yay or Nay: Victory 2009.

Yay or Nay: Poed Up - Fly.Union feat. Big Sean.

Here's a little known fact about me, I really don't like the state of Ohio. I don't know why; if Ohio were a person I think we would fight. *This does not explain my dislike for Kid Cudi and Charles Hamilton* However, every now and again something dope comes from the Buckeye state and it's a group that I recently got hip to, Fly.Union. I'm going to assume that it's a certain sound floating around the midwest, because they fall right in with The Cool Kids and Big Sean. Speaking of Mr. Finally Famous, he teamed up with Fly.Union for this track. So Yay or Nay: "Poed Up"- Fly.Union feat. Big Sean.

Yay or Nay: Certified - Usher feat. Pharrell

Last week at Michael Jackson's Memorial, the world watched as an emotional Usher choked up while honoring the late great. Well, he's been bsy in the studio recording and has teamed up with everyone's favorite 'nerd' for this track, "Certified" featuring Pharrell (I love Pharrell, practically everything he touches turns into platinum). Maybe it's just me, but something about Usher's delivery on this one almost kind of reminds me of Michael Jackson's. Anyway, Yay or Nay: "Certified" Usher feat. Pharrell.

This is a Movement - Young Scolla

This past weekend one of the biggest events to hit Detroit this summer took place, 3 Days B4 Fame, and I was lucky enough to attend Days 1 and 2. It was thrown by U.S.R. but was sponsored by and featured a gazillion (ok maybe that's an over-exaggeration) people. I had fun, LOTS of fun, then again I have fun everywhere I go. I guess the best way to jump into this would be to talk about Day 1.
Day 1 was 'Fashionably Late' and took place at the Crofoot in Pontiac; it was a fashion show and a concert and of course a fiesta! (lol). Well, I got there a lil' on the late side and missed a few performances including Big Shan's, but I walked in on Yung GooD performing "Transformers" (he did 'GooD' BTW). I spent the first few minutes really saying hey to people and scoping the place out to see who was there. Crowd was pretty much what I expected.I walked in the same time as Big Sean and the rest of Finally Famous arrived, naturally U.S.R., Young Slapz, your favorite blogger Cliff Skighwalker and Ro from Burn Rubber were there as well.
Now on to the actual concert/fashion show. Like I said Yung GooD performed, as well as, Dusty McFly, Earlly Mac, Big Sean, the man of the weekend Young Scolla, and JFin. There were others but those are all the performances I caught. Some of the lines featured were Fanciee Clothing, Get Fresh Society, Brother's Four, and Freshman Clothing. My problem: The stage was too congested. The way it went you had the performers doing their thing while the models were strutting around them, showing off whatever line it was (think BET's Spring Bling or Rock the Runway). However, since there were more people onstage than just the models and performers (basically the entourages) that distracted me and a few others I talked to. You couldn't see one or the other (model/performer) and the stage really wasnt large enough to have all those people on it to begin with.
For the actual performers? No complaints, I liked them and the songs they performed (though my opinion may be somewhat biased because I actually listen to some of these artists anyway). In between the running around Scolla actually made time to perform and performed "Infatuation" (which I love) and Big Sean performed "Hollywood" w. Earlly Mac and "Iraq" w. Dusty McFly. The closing performance of the night was JFin. The everything (can't really just call it a concert, or fashion show, or party) doubled as the mixtape release party for JFin's InFINity and Beyond mixtape; though I was late I managed to get a hard copy of the mixtape too (YAY!).
Day 2 was a pool party at Chandler Park Aquatic Center. It was hosted by Ray J., WJLB was there, reps from Monster Energy drinks were there (and giving out Monsters! ) and most of the people you saw at Day 1 were at Day 2. Though I did have fun here, there were a few complaints made by some others I spoke with. The biggest one being the timing; according to the flyer the party was to be from 2 p.m.- 7 p.m. However Ray J. didn't show up until after 6, which means nothing was really happening because the host wasn't there.

It's a saturday, it's nice out, and it's a water park so naturally there were lots of kids there. When Ray J. showed his 5'4" frame they came like the antelope stampede in The Lion King straight out the pool and over the picnic tables to Ray J. I found it funny how I was nowhere near the water but ended up wet one side. But the kdis weren't the bad ones, I spotted a lady let go of her son (he had to be about 1 because he had on a little swimmers diaper thing lol) and run up to Ray J. leaving the baby standing there almost getting ran over.
I left before the step show so I didn't get to see the MSU Iota Phi Theta's step, but I saw them stroll and such earlier and I also caught a couple of other step teams practicing; they were all cool.
Now I didn't go to Day 3,but I caught some of the livestreaming from the Loft, Dante Marshall's Loft that is. I really wasn't surprised when they announced the "secret location" of the private party, like not at all surprised. Not going to comment on it because I wasn't there, but ONE thing I did hear happened (via the livestream and attendees) and had to mention was the problemo around Big Sean's arrival. Apparently some unknowing soul at the door tried to charge Big Sean to get in and he wasn't taking that well at all. On one hand the situation is ironic because of the message he delivers in his song "Hollywood" but on the other if I were him I'd probably be upset too (Ok, I'd be heated).

Overall thoughts: Depending on how you are as person, 3 Days B4 Fame could've been fun or a bust. I personally enjoyed myself and I like the idea of the whole event. From what I understand there will be another event next year (and I'm sure it'll be bigger and better than this year's). If you missed this year, don't fret, everyone gets their 15 mins. in the spotlight, 2010 is YOUR year! ( ;-) lol)

Like it or Not - JFin

You may have noticed that Big Sean's UKnowBigSean is no longer the playlist on my blog O_O. Besides needing a different playlist, since I've started listening to JFin's mixtape I haven't been able to stop. What made me give JFin a chance was the e-mail he sent. What made me like JFin was his lyrical style and actually being a talented rapper. He's not from Detroit, Detroit, he reps the Field (Southfield that is.) But location means little (and you'll actually forget about it) when listening to his music. Who is JFin anyway? Well peep the video he did for Tha 'A' Side. Introducing, JFin.

Yay or Nay: Work on Deck - Soulja Boy

Music Video: Remember Me - T.I.

Posted this song back when it was "leaked" onto the internet, now here's the video for it. T.I. featuring Mary J. Blige "Remember Me"

Mixtape: JFin

Marathon Sh*t - JFin

I know some of you may be wondering why I haven't posted the link yet. Well besides being busy I'm waiting on JFin to send me the video answering the questions I had for him. Friday, JFin released his kind of anticipated mixtape InFINity [And Beyond] (I 'fin' isn't really capitalized but I liked the way it looked). First and foremost, JFin reps 8 mile...the Southfield side and he admits it on the intro track "Infinity and Beyond". I can't really think of who to compare him too because on some tracks he sounds like Chuck Inglish of the Cool Kids, then his delivery style switches to sounding like someone I haven't pinpointed yet. He samples Frankie Beverly and Maze's "We Are One" but classic sounds don't really define this mixtape either, many tracks have electronic/futuristic beats which has been seen in a lot of mixtapes this year. I know it seems that I'm saying it jumps around a lot, but it really doesn't, lyrically JFin is pretty good and it's more cohesive than you'd think. There are some feature artists, however, they aren't listed when you download the mixtape (or if you have a hard copy like I do), so that bothers me a little bit.

Overall: Infinity and Beyond is something you should definitely have in your iTunes library, it's worth the listen.

Yay or Nay: Looking For Ya - Andre 3000

At first I was skeptical when I heard it because it didn't sound like Andre 3000, then he started rapping. As Big Boi prepares for his solo dolo release Mr. 3000 isn't just waiting on him so they can get their next Outkast project off the ground. This song was leaked and it's a new joint by Andre 3000. Now I'm quite sure it's just a snippet because it's about 2 minutes and ends abruptly. Nonetheless I'm excited for his (and Outkast's in general) return. Yay or Nay: "Looking For Ya" - Andre 3000

Yay or Nay: Don't Trust Me (rmx) - 3Oh3! feat. Mike Posner and Kid Cudi

Lookie what I came across. I'm not the biggest Kid Cudi fan, but every now and again he does something that I really like. Now Mike Posner on the other hand I am a fan of, and I truly like his stuff. I also rocks with 3Oh3! something heavy...so how geeked am I that Kid Cudi and Mike Posner hopped on a 3Oh3! track? very. But I know not everyone rocks with everything so I want to know what you all think...Yay or Nay: "Don't Trust Me (remix)"- 3Oh3! feat. Mike Posner and Kid Cudi.

Black or White - Michael Jackson

So, Bill O'Reilly crossed a line...a thick, heavy painted line. Watch below if you don't know what's going down...I don't care WHO you are or how long you've been doing this, Bill, you saw what happened to Don Imus.

Yay or Nay: Pardon Me - ADubb

I was on Twitter today (like that's so unusual) and one of the people I follow posted a link to a track that they did and I had to check it out and of course, Yay or Nay it. Maybe you've seen him at a party or at a club or two but his name is ADubb and yup he's Finally Famous...well a part of Finally Famous, don't know how famous he is. I actually remember seeing him do tricks and such on his motorcycle down Woodward at Keys to the City back in April (then getting a ticket by Detroit's finest for doing so). Anyway, this track came out in Jan, however I wasn't blogging then and since he is promoting it again, I wanted to know what you all thought about it. Yay or Nay: "Pardon Me" - ADubb produced by Young Roc.

Flashback: Tell Me - Smilez and Southstar

This is my 200th post...Kind of strange seeing as I have considered quitting blogging tons of times (clearly I haven't though :-} ) Anyway, I wanted to do a Flashback and thought that "Tell Me" by Smilez and Southstar was appropriate. So tell me, do you like my blog? What would you like to see? While you let your mines ponder that, enjoy this flashback, Smilez and Southstar's "Tell Me."

(White) Me Down - Lil' Boosie

Ever since I was a little kid, and I do mean young, I've always wanted to go to Diddy's White Party in The Hamptons (The REAL White Party that cities across America imitiate, they are ok, but I'm sure none touches Diddy's). This year he teamed up with another favorite celebrity, Ashton Kutcher, and raised money for the foundation Malaria No More. There were a few things spotted, Lauren London premiered her pregnant belly (she's roughly 7 months now), Chris Brown performed his own lil' Michael Jackson tribute, Amber Rose's hair isn't blue after-all (could've been a temporary thing), Mariah and Nick recycled their wedding day outfits (ok maybe not, but yeah they're annoying) and naturally rumors continue to fly about Chris Brown and his relationship with Teyana Taylor who reportedly kicked it with him most of the night.

Diddy and his mom Janice Combs

Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore

New New and her very new baby bump.

Say what you want, but when Amber Rose stunts, she stunts.

Aren't they gorgeous in White? Tyrese and C. Breezy

Chris Brown making BET jealous they didn't pick him...

Nick and Mariah

Teyana the princess of harlem, lol.

Rev Run was in the buiding.

Yay or Nay: Hell of a Night - JFin

Another Detroit, well METRO Detroit, one for you all. Got this in my inbox this morning, and it's by JFin. He's another one of those I came across via Twitter, but never checked his stuff out until today. This joint is called "Hell of a Night" and I believe it will be on his mixtape InFINity [and Beyond] (love the usage of Buzz Lightyear's catchphrase) which drops next Friday, July 10. With that said, Yay or Nay: "Hell of a Night" - JFin.

Flashback: Steelo - 702

So, I was sitting in the hallway before class and they have digital clocks that tell you the date in numerical form. Today is July 2, but on that clock it read 7-02, and I thought about the R&B group 702 (Other music heads probably have similar conditions where the simplest things can remind them of a song/album/artist) so in lieu of this coincidence I decided today's flashbak video should be from that group and picked "Steelo". Now I'm a product of the 90's and LOVED Cousin Skeeter, and this song was the one used for the theme song to that show (they just kind of switched up the lyrics). Enough of me jabbin', flashback to 702 - "Steelo".

For kicks, the Cousin Skeeter theme song. Anybody else think Robert Ri'chard (aka Arnaz from One on One for you young ones) really resembled Cousin Skeeter???

Music Video: Best I Ever Had - Drake

So it's officially here, Mr. Degrassi's video for "Best I Ever Had" directed by the Louis Vuitton Don, Kanye West. The only reason I think I can tolerate watching this soft porn is because Drake is a looker, lol. Here's Drake's "Best I Ever Had."
