Video: Ooo La La La [Live on Soul Train] - Teena Marie
Well, if you haven't heard by now, legendary blue-eyed soul singer Teena Marie passed away Sunday morning from what appears to be natural causes.
Her daughter discovered her body in the bedroom of the singer's home who passed away in her sleep. It has been reported (though I haven't seen it confirmed anywhere) that she may have passed away after having a seizure (she has suffered from these before).
Teena Marie had one of the most soulful voices. I've seen people referring to her as the "Blackest White Girl" and speaking with my Mom, she said when Teena Marie's album first dropped, her label decided to not put her on the cover because they weren't sure how people were going to react to a White girl with such a powerful voice.
Not sure how true that is, but one could believe it.
Her passing comes about four years after that of Rick James, a constant collaborator.
Now Fire & Desire may rest peacefully.

On The Hotline - Pretty Ricky

♫ The most interesting tour of the summer kicked off yesterday. America's Most Wanted Tour starring: Lil' Wayne, Young Jeezy, Soulja Boy, Drake, Jeremih, and Nicki Minaj (?). Yes, Nicki Lewinsky has been added to the tour and Drake's set has been cut short according to XXL. Due to Drake's knee injury (he tore his ACL right before the BET Awards, which is why he sat during the performance) his doctor's and tour managers decided it was best to cut his set short so he could make it through the North American tour. It's scheduled to hit cities all over the U.S. and Canada as well and tickets are on sale through Ticketmaster. It will come to Detroit August 30 at DTE Energy Music Theatre in Clawson, Michigan.
♫ Rapper/actor extraordinaire Q-tip is planning a posthumous (after death) birthday party for the late king of pop Michael Jackson. 'Long Live The King' will take place August 29, at the Nokia Theatre in Times Square, New York. In a press release the Q-Tip (who is also DJing the event) said:Michael Jackson was a huge influence on my music and was an inspiration to me and so many others. I want to bring people together to celebrate the man, his music and his legacy that will undoubtedly live on forever!
Tickets can be purchased via Ticketmaster and are on pre-sale for $25 with a limit of 6 tickets per credit card/person.
♫ Back in 2007, Ja Rule released "Uh-Oh" feat. Lil' Wayne and that was supposed to be the first single off his 8th studio album, The Mirror. Well two years later we finally get it. MTV reports that The Mirror: Reloaded is slated to be released online (no date has been set yet). How can something be reloaded if it never dropped? Well after the cancellation of his original release dates, Ja went BACK into the studio and recorded an entirely new album.

Baby Mama - Fantasia: Kelis

Some good news comes out of the Nas v. Kelis battle: a healthy baby boy. It was announced today that the bossy singer delivered a baby boy at a New York hospital. However it wasn't all a joyous occasion as Nas –legendary rapper and soon to be Kelis' ex husband– was NOT allowed to be there for the baby's delivery (according to MTV News UK). No word as to why this was, could be because of the ugly divorce going on between them or he's still mad Kelis is asking for $20K a month in maintenance (Not including child support) This is Kelis' first child and Nas' second (but first son). No information on the name and other stats have been released about the new boy.

♫ Gucci Mane and OJ Da Juiceman reply to Young Jeezy's "24/23," but not like rappers should. Tell Me Something Good - Rufus & Chaka Khan
♫ Soulja Boy is allegedly going on tour with Lil' Wayne, Young Jeezy and Drake. The rapper confirmed that announcement via his Twitter page. Here's where things get a lil' tricky, Soulja Boy's rep told MTV that he was joining this lineup as well, however a rep from the Young Money /Lil' Wayne camp told them that a concert tour with at least some of the four artists will happen...*My bets on Jeezy not being on it!*
But more news from the SOD camp (that's my word for today, camp) Soulja Boy is releasing a Gangsta Grillz mixtape. What's killer (the bad killer not the good killer) about the mixtape? It's called "Follow Me: Gangsta Grillz Twitter Edition," yes the mixtape is dedicated to Twitter, will be released through Twitter first, and he's actually pulling a Yung Berg with this Twitter title. *except I doubt he'll scam his DJ, would YOU mess with DJ Drama?*
♫ So you'd be lying to yourself if you said Drake wasn't a record label's wet dream he's: new, endorsed by rap bigwigs, getting love on the radio, crazy rumors about his romance life and best of all, he's unsigned. Jimmy Brooks is moving too fast for his own speed though, he's already about to be involved in a major lawsuit. Canadian Money Entertaiment (CME...Ca-na-di-an...Canada...) released a "Drake" mixtape through iTunes and there would be nothing wrong with that if a) it weren't unauthorized and b) if it were REAL! ♫ Ay Remember Sticky Fingaz from the hip-hop group Onyx (group also had Fredro Starr aka Q from Moesha for all y'all uber late 90's babies)? Well he's doing a hip-hop musical, no it's not some uber lame 3 hour show with shiny and sequined dance sequences (how's that for alliteration?) ♫ Drake is about to begin filming the video for his first single "Best I Ever Had" The Canadian Degrassi alum told MTV that he just wants to make women feel special with the video:
The biggest thing about that song is that a lot of women come up to me and say, 'That's my song, because it really makes me feel special.' So I told the directors that were interested that I just want the visuals to coincide with that feeling. ♫ I heard this earlier in the day, but I was waiting on the official say so from the news sites. Yesterday boxing legend Mike Tyson's 4-year-old daughter, Exodus Tyson, was hospitalized and on life support after an accident on a treadmill. According to various news sites, she was discovered by her 7-year-old brother tangled in cords on the treadmill and paramedics were called yesterday morning. CBS quoted Sgt Andy hill about the situation.
Somehow she was playing on this treadmill, and there's a cord that hangs under the console - it's kind of a loop. Either she slipped or put her head in the loop, but it acted like a noose, and she was obviously unable to get herself off of it.
Exodus was pronounced dead today at about 11:45 a.m.

Do remember that Eminem said he never saw the post and didn't get the opportunity to read it. NC also backtracks on a couple of things, he says he has no beef with Eminem and that it was just one of those things that he HAD to say. "t's music; it's just sonics. I like Auto-Tune so I do it, but you want the other thing — like you'll wear a suit to a wedding and gym shoes to a basketball game. I think it's a perfect moment for Jay to provide some gym shoes to a basketball game right now.

Gossip Folk - Missy Elliott
What's going on in the music world?
♫ I said it before and I shall say it again, T.I. is running the show. Apparently the rapper filed papers with the courts that would put a 10 day delay on his incarceration. The reason being, he wants to be put in jail closer to Atlanta; T.I. is scheduled to turn himself in on May 26 and will be serving his sentence in an Arkansas prison. Before I was kidding, but how long ago has T.I. been supposed to go to jail? Wasn't he charged and convicted back in early '08? I'm just going to say it, if it were ANY other person (i.e. not a celebrity) it wouldn't have been a year before they were locked down.
♫ Jay-Z is a free man. NO him and Beyonce did not get divorced, Jay-Z told rapradar.com that he has indeed left Def Jam.
♫ Aubrey Berry, the man accused of murdering Konvict Muzik artist Dolla, bail has been raised to a whomping $5 million according to XXL. Berry and Dolla had a couple of altercations previously, one being at a nightclub in Atlanta where allegedly Dolla and entourage fought (and beat up) Berry and his crew. Berry's defense team is claiming self-defense; reportedly Dolla threatened him at a L.A. PF Chang's restaurant and reached for his waistband and that's when Berry shot Dolla. However, no weapons were found on Dolla at the crime scene. (It's horrible that he assumed he was reaching for a gun, what if it was an inhaler or something?)

♫ XXL reported that Lil' Wayne's album has been pushed back-again- until July. In case you lost count that makes 3 times the date has changed for Rebirth. I'm still skeptical about the finished product.
♫ Jimmy Brooks, Aubrey Graham, and Drakegroupies fans can sleep with ease. The Toronto rapper and Young Money affiliate cleared up rumors that he and Rihanna are dating. Drake called in to NY's Hot97 and said that he and Ri Ri are just friends, even though he does acknowledge (to some extent) that he was indeed at the restaurant.

♫ Jay-Z is a free man. NO him and Beyonce did not get divorced, Jay-Z told rapradar.com that he has indeed left Def Jam.I can honestly say, working with Doug Morris and LA Reid has been a unique and fulfilling experience and I respect them immensely. I've been in the family for almost my entire career.
Doug and I spoke directly and had one of the most unique "negotiations" ever. Doug won the toss but, we both won in the end..I thank him for allowing me to be a completely independent artist. Not every artist can say they own or are given the opportunity to own all of their music.

I have the upmost respect for her man, I think she's so talented. I'm honored that they would think of me and start this rumor, but it is not true. Not only is Drake internationally known and unsigned, now he already has rumors circulating? Too big, too soon?

Chicken Head - Project Pat
OK so unless you have been in a cave kickin' it with Osama Bin Laden *real talk even he may know* then you heard about the Oprah buying everyone in America KFC. The deal was you go online print out the coupons and the limit per ISP/User was 4. Well yesterday there were some problems because of the overwhelming response of people trying to print them. So KFC President Roger Eaton published this video via YouTube about the situation and the raincheck coupons.
Why the frick he is speaking like that? I don't know.

Update: Fame - DMX

So somebody's lying; don't know who it is yet; but XXL Magazine posted on their Web site earlier that DMX's reps deny him having any involvement in the new season of Celebrity Rehab. Currently X is serving a 90 day sentence in Arizona. Pam Pinnock, DMX's rep, told XXL that he won't be on TV anytime soon but he is looking at movie contracts for roles he may take upon his release.
I will say I am slightly disappointed he won't be..imagine how good of a season that would have been with DMX kicking it with Dr. Drew.

Party Up - DMX

Word around the web is that DMX has signed up to enter rehab; not a real one but Celebrity Rehab.
Ok, ok maybe they do have real doctors and such, but the show's drug counselor Bob Forrest told Radar that the Ruff Ryder is the first cast member to be announced in the upcoming season. If you forgot what problems Earl Simmons (that's his government for those that don't know) has let's recap:
-Animal Cruelty
-Reckless Driving
-Unlicensed Driving
-Marijuana Possession
-Identity Falsification
-Theft
Mind you some of these are multiple counts. Let's see what Dr. Drew can do!
Who else do you think would be on the show? They should stick Bobby Brown, that'd be interesting.

Tatted Up - D4L
My biggest fear about my future is that I will hate my tattoos and want them covered or removed. Well one of the greatest producers/artist of all time just underwent laser treatment to have his tattoos burned off.
A while ago, Skateboard P. aka Pharrell Williams said he was considering undergoing skin grafts to get rid of his tattoos. Apparently Mr. Neptune changed his mind; on the BBC/Ice Cream blog Pharell posted this pic that shows both his arms bandaged up.
This is the caption that was posted:
If this is the before, I wonder how painful that was.

This is the caption that was posted:Laser treatment bitches! Extra crispy.” See, no skin graft here, just pure laser pain. This is our own version of Mythbusters! Laser is the new primer.
If this is the before, I wonder how painful that was.
