It's back to school time as everyone knows, summer is almost over and it'll be time to hit the books (unless you're like me and you have been taking classes throughout the summer). Well it's one commercial I SWEAR Mr. Alan's (it's an outlet store here in Michigan best known for it's '$25 or 2 for $50' deals) shows EVERY year during Back to School time. Thing is the commercial was shot in 1998, so over 11 year ago, and is extremely outdated. Also, it just so happens to star my older cousin Isaac and his friend Darryll, and every year during this time I ask him to say THE line:: Want to Get the Girl? See the Man (he never says it BTW). Anyway I haven't seen it yet, but I thought it was perfecto for this season. Remember: This Mr. Alan's commercial?

Yay or Nay: Choosing You - J.R. Get Money
FACT: Detroit has talent, not only does the city have talent on the mic but behind it as well. I received this track today from Detroit's own Tim Bosky (he along with Bei Maejor produced Chrisette Michele's "On My Own" off of her 'Epiphany' album). The joint is by this guy from Atlanta by way of New Orleans, J.R. Get Money. He's roughly 21, and he's signed to T.I.'s Grand Hustle Records and Universal Motown. His mixtape 'Stamped and Certified Vol. 1' was released back in March of this year, and from the way I understand it J.R. is currently in the studio working on another project. Whether it's an album or mixtape, I don't know yet. With T.I. locked up J.R. is truly on his grand hustle. Yay or Nay: Choosing You - J.R. "Get Money"

Musical Massacre - Eric B. & Rakim
I'm trying something new here and that is, at least once a week I will present you with something, an event, person, album, that took place during that week's dates in hip-hop history. The first one I'm doing took place July 25, 1988 and it was the release of THE most influential rap duo, Eric B. & Rakim's 'Follow The Leader.' The album was the follow up to their debut turned classic album 'Paid in Full.' 'Follow The Leader' included some of the most influential rap tracks including the albums lead single 'Follow the Leader', "Microphone Fiend" and "Lyrics of Fury."
The duo blew up during hip hop's Golden Age with their single "Eric B. is President," which also started some kind of tiff between them and Marley Marl who claims he produced the record but was never given attribution. The duo split in the early 90's after they each wanted to pursue solo albums, however Eric B. did not want to be relieved from their contract because his biggest worry was Rakim wouldn't remain as part of the duo. But Eric B. & Rakim split on ok terms, no harsh words were exchanged and according to them majority of the strain was coming from the labels.

Ok, so I dislike Tyler Perry's House of Payne, but I rock with his plays. Seeing as he is turning all his plays into movies I like some of them too. His last film, Madea Goes to Jail, was released in February and Perry is prepping for the Sept. 11 release of another movie: I Can Do Bad By Myself. This is the movie version to the play of the same name, but you know Tyler Perry plays, the plot is a little different than it's onstage counterpart. It stars Taraji P. Henson as April, an aspiring singer and alcoholic, who ends up with the responsibility of raising her sister's three children. Some other stars include singing legends, Mary J. Blige and Gladys Knight and of course Tyler Perry as Madea. Peep the trailer below.

So I've been thinking about this for a minute and have always forgotten to post it. Sometimes when people ask me how things are going I have the tendency to answer "It's hard out here for pimp." Wack, Lame, yes I know, but I remember when 3 6 Mafia won an Oscar for this record and how utterly disappointed I was in America. As easy and cliché as that saying has become there was another song in the movie that was just as popular and personally my favorite from that movie: "Whoop That Trick" ... lol enjoy.

Stephon Marbury aka #8 Most Hated in Sports bka Starbury. What Can I say? If you haven't seen this video, watch it first before continuing reading.
Here's the background information: Marbury has been streaming live 24/7 for the past few days. He has gone hyphy to Beyonce's Ring the Alarm, discussed his love for Drake, prayed, cried, yelled, everything on this livestream.
Am I the only one that notices he not only clearly chooses to play the song, but he also cries before it even fully plays. Is this a cry for attention? (no pun intended) I mean, why else would someone want to broadcast themselves crying to the world? Especially a male NBA player? *He has also been deemed the #8 most hated person in sports*. Now that his viewership is up, I wonder what else he's going to do. I personally believe he's going to say he's getting a television show. Now if it happens, please remember I said it first!

Maybe you've seen the commercials on BET about it's new show "Rising Icons". Do you know that BET, Complex, and Grey Goose have a contest for Local Rising Icons? If you didn't know that, then I bet you REALLY didn't know that two of Detroit's own (and favorites) Big Sean and DJ Mo Beatz are both in the running for this, I guess, honor. The winner gets to share the stage with the likes of Chrisette Michele, Keri Hilson and The Dream on the Sept. 8, BET special. Now here's the tough part, picking your favorite between the two. Shadyville's DJ Mo Beatz spins for FM 98 WJLB, has DJ'ed around the world and just so happens to be Big Sean's DJ. Now Big Sean is signed to Kanye's G.O.O.D. Music Label and Island Def Jam and he just released the official video for his buzz single "Getcha Some." I guess if you're really determined you can use two different computers and multiple e-mails to vote. ♫ The most interesting tour of the summer kicked off yesterday. America's Most Wanted Tour starring: Lil' Wayne, Young Jeezy, Soulja Boy, Drake, Jeremih, and Nicki Minaj (?). Yes, Nicki Lewinsky has been added to the tour and Drake's set has been cut short according to XXL. Due to Drake's knee injury (he tore his ACL right before the BET Awards, which is why he sat during the performance) his doctor's and tour managers decided it was best to cut his set short so he could make it through the North American tour. It's scheduled to hit cities all over the U.S. and Canada as well and tickets are on sale through Ticketmaster. It will come to Detroit August 30 at DTE Energy Music Theatre in Clawson, Michigan.
♫ Rapper/actor extraordinaire Q-tip is planning a posthumous (after death) birthday party for the late king of pop Michael Jackson. 'Long Live The King' will take place August 29, at the Nokia Theatre in Times Square, New York. In a press release the Q-Tip (who is also DJing the event) said:
Michael Jackson was a huge influence on my music and was an inspiration to me and so many others. I want to bring people together to celebrate the man, his music and his legacy that will undoubtedly live on forever!
Tickets can be purchased via Ticketmaster and are on pre-sale for $25 with a limit of 6 tickets per credit card/person.
♫ Back in 2007, Ja Rule released "Uh-Oh" feat. Lil' Wayne and that was supposed to be the first single off his 8th studio album, The Mirror. Well two years later we finally get it. Flashback: I'm Real - J. Lo and Ja Rule
Back in 2003 ( I believe it was '03, maybe '02) when Jennifer Lopez aka J to the L-O discovered her urban side, my best friend and I loved her (lol). She came out with her remix CD that featured the likes of Ja Rule, Fat Joe and Diddy. This is by far her most famous(hood wise anyway) song, it features the ultimate early 2000 collab artist, Ja Rule. There was a lot of controversy surrounding this song because Jennifer Lopez used the 'N'- word and the hip-hop world had her back (Ja Rule actually wrote the song). This video, his first one, was directed by Hype Williams and after several, several pushbacks finally released tonight at 9p.m. on his website. (at first I thought maybe I lost a few tracks while downloading but I double-checked...there are only four). I believe it's the first in a series of Value Packs released by the Clevelanders, but it's dope nonetheless. It includes "Poed Up" (which was posted yesterday) featuring Big Sean and a remix of Clipse's "I'm Good".
I personally believe the Midwest is about to be what the South was a few years ago and what Nelly/Chingy attempted to make the Midwest nearly a decade ago. Anyway, I cosign them, I dig them, you should download this.

Yay or Nay: Victory 2009 - 101 feat. Fatt Father and Phatboy Chef
"Victory" by Biggie Smalls is not my favorite song by the notorious rapper, but it is my favorite beat that he has rapped on. I got this song in my inbox today and it's by 101, now you may be thinking you haven't heard the name 101 before or that you don't know any of the guys but you'll be lying to yourself. Marvwon, (who so nicely dissed Charles Hamilton sending him into static shock), Ro Spit (the artist formerly known as Octane and 1/2 of Burn Rubber) and Ron Dance (sales manager over at District 81 more recently turned actor) all make up this Detroit rap super trio. Throw on Fatt Father and Phatboy Chef and you have these bars on a B.I.G. classic. Yay or Nay: Victory 2009.

Yay or Nay: Poed Up - Fly.Union feat. Big Sean.
Here's a little known fact about me, I really don't like the state of Ohio. I don't know why; if Ohio were a person I think we would fight. *This does not explain my dislike for Kid Cudi and Charles Hamilton* However, every now and again something dope comes from the Buckeye state and it's a group that I recently got hip to, Fly.Union. I'm going to assume that it's a certain sound floating around the midwest, because they fall right in with The Cool Kids and Big Sean. Speaking of Mr. Finally Famous, he teamed up with Fly.Union for this track. So Yay or Nay: "Poed Up"- Fly.Union feat. Big Sean.

Yay or Nay: Certified - Usher feat. Pharrell
Last week at Michael Jackson's Memorial, the world watched as an emotional Usher choked up while honoring the late great. Well, he's been bsy in the studio recording and has teamed up with everyone's favorite 'nerd' for this track, "Certified" featuring Pharrell (I love Pharrell, practically everything he touches turns into platinum). Maybe it's just me, but something about Usher's delivery on this one almost kind of reminds me of Michael Jackson's. Anyway, Yay or Nay: "Certified" Usher feat. Pharrell.

This is a Movement - Young Scolla
This past weekend one of the biggest events to hit Detroit this summer took place, 3 Days B4 Fame, and I was lucky enough to attend Days 1 and 2. It was thrown by U.S.R. but was sponsored by and featured a gazillion (ok maybe that's an over-exaggeration) people. I had fun, LOTS of fun, then again I have fun everywhere I go. I guess the best way to jump into this would be to talk about Day 1.
Day 1 was 'Fashionably Late' and took place at the Crofoot in Pontiac; it was a fashion show and a concert and of course a fiesta! (lol). Well, I got there a lil' on the late side and missed a few performances including Big Shan's, but I walked in on Yung GooD performing "Transformers" (he did 'GooD' BTW). I spent the first few minutes really saying hey to people and scoping the place out to see who was there. Crowd was pretty much what I expected.I walked in the same time as Big Sean and the rest of Finally Famous arrived, naturally U.S.R., Young Slapz, your favorite blogger Cliff Skighwalker and Ro from Burn Rubber were there as well.
Now on to the actual concert/fashion show. Like I said Yung GooD performed, as well as, Dusty McFly, Earlly Mac, Big Sean, the man of the weekend Young Scolla, and JFin. There were others but those are all the performances I caught. Some of the lines featured were Fanciee Clothing, Get Fresh Society, Brother's Four, and Freshman Clothing. My problem: The stage was too congested. The way it went you had the performers doing their thing while the models were strutting around them, showing off whatever line it was (think BET's Spring Bling or Rock the Runway). However, since there were more people onstage than just the models and performers (basically the entourages) that distracted me and a few others I talked to. You couldn't see one or the other (model/performer) and the stage really wasnt large enough to have all those people on it to begin with.
For the actual performers? No complaints, I liked them and the songs they performed (though my opinion may be somewhat biased because I actually listen to some of these artists anyway). In between the running around Scolla actually made time to perform and performed "Infatuation" (which I love) and Big Sean performed "Hollywood" w. Earlly Mac and "Iraq" w. Dusty McFly. The closing performance of the night was JFin. The everything (can't really just call it a concert, or fashion show, or party) doubled as the mixtape release party for JFin's InFINity and Beyond mixtape; though I was late I managed to get a hard copy of the mixtape too (YAY!).
Day 2 was a pool party at Chandler Park Aquatic Center. It was hosted by Ray J., WJLB was there, reps from Monster Energy drinks were there (and giving out Monsters! ) and most of the people you saw at Day 1 were at Day 2. Though I did have fun here, there were a few complaints made by some others I spoke with. The biggest one being the timing; according to the flyer the party was to be from 2 p.m.- 7 p.m. However Ray J. didn't show up until after 6, which means nothing was really happening because the host wasn't there.
It's a saturday, it's nice out, and it's a water park so naturally there were lots of kids there. When Ray J. showed his 5'4" frame they came like the antelope stampede in The Lion King straight out the pool and over the picnic tables to Ray J. I found it funny how I was nowhere near the water but ended up wet one side. But the kdis weren't the bad ones, I spotted a lady let go of her son (he had to be about 1 because he had on a little swimmers diaper thing lol) and run up to Ray J. leaving the baby standing there almost getting ran over.
I left before the step show so I didn't get to see the MSU Iota Phi Theta's step, but I saw them stroll and such earlier and I also caught a couple of other step teams practicing; they were all cool.
Now I didn't go to Day 3,but I caught some of the livestreaming from the Loft, Dante Marshall's Loft that is. I really wasn't surprised when they announced the "secret location" of the private party, like not at all surprised. Not going to comment on it because I wasn't there, but ONE thing I did hear happened (via the livestream and attendees) and had to mention was the problemo around Big Sean's arrival. Apparently some unknowing soul at the door tried to charge Big Sean to get in and he wasn't taking that well at all. On one hand the situation is ironic because of the message he delivers in his song "Hollywood" but on the other if I were him I'd probably be upset too (Ok, I'd be heated).
Overall thoughts: Depending on how you are as person, 3 Days B4 Fame could've been fun or a bust. I personally enjoyed myself and I like the idea of the whole event. From what I understand there will be another event next year (and I'm sure it'll be bigger and better than this year's). If you missed this year, don't fret, everyone gets their 15 mins. in the spotlight, 2010 is YOUR year! ( ;-) lol)

Like it or Not - JFin
You may have noticed that Big Sean's UKnowBigSean is no longer the playlist on my blog O_O. Besides needing a different playlist, since I've started listening to JFin's mixtape I haven't been able to stop. What made me give JFin a chance was the e-mail he sent. What made me like JFin was his lyrical style and actually being a talented rapper. He's not from Detroit, Detroit, he reps the Field (Southfield that is.) But location means little (and you'll actually forget about it) when listening to his music. Who is JFin anyway? Well peep the video he did for Tha 'A' Side. Introducing, JFin.

Marathon Sh*t - JFin
I know some of you may be wondering why I haven't posted the link yet. Well besides being busy I'm waiting on JFin to send me the video answering the questions I had for him. Friday, JFin released his kind of anticipated mixtape InFINity [And Beyond] (I 'fin' isn't really capitalized but I liked the way it looked). First and foremost, JFin reps 8 mile...the Southfield side and he admits it on the intro track "Infinity and Beyond". I can't really think of who to compare him too because on some tracks he sounds like Chuck Inglish of the Cool Kids, then his delivery style switches to sounding like someone I haven't pinpointed yet. He samples Frankie Beverly and Maze's "We Are One" but classic sounds don't really define this mixtape either, many tracks have electronic/futuristic beats which has been seen in a lot of mixtapes this year. I know it seems that I'm saying it jumps around a lot, but it really doesn't, lyrically JFin is pretty good and it's more cohesive than you'd think. There are some feature artists, however, they aren't listed when you download the mixtape (or if you have a hard copy like I do), so that bothers me a little bit.
Overall: Infinity and Beyond is something you should definitely have in your iTunes library, it's worth the listen.

Yay or Nay: Looking For Ya - Andre 3000
At first I was skeptical when I heard it because it didn't sound like Andre 3000, then he started rapping. As Big Boi prepares for his solo dolo release Mr. 3000 isn't just waiting on him so they can get their next Outkast project off the ground. This song was leaked and it's a new joint by Andre 3000. Now I'm quite sure it's just a snippet because it's about 2 minutes and ends abruptly. Nonetheless I'm excited for his (and Outkast's in general) return. Yay or Nay: "Looking For Ya" - Andre 3000

Yay or Nay: Don't Trust Me (rmx) - 3Oh3! feat. Mike Posner and Kid Cudi
Lookie what I came across. I'm not the biggest Kid Cudi fan, but every now and again he does something that I really like. Now Mike Posner on the other hand I am a fan of, and I truly like his stuff. I also rocks with 3Oh3! something heavy...so how geeked am I that Kid Cudi and Mike Posner hopped on a 3Oh3! track? very. But I know not everyone rocks with everything so I want to know what you all think...Yay or Nay: "Don't Trust Me (remix)"- 3Oh3! feat. Mike Posner and Kid Cudi.

Yay or Nay: Pardon Me - ADubb
I was on Twitter today (like that's so unusual) and one of the people I follow posted a link to a track that they did and I had to check it out and of course, Yay or Nay it. Maybe you've seen him at a party or at a club or two but his name is ADubb and yup he's Finally Famous...well a part of Finally Famous, don't know how famous he is. I actually remember seeing him do tricks and such on his motorcycle down Woodward at Keys to the City back in April (then getting a ticket by Detroit's finest for doing so). Anyway, this track came out in Jan, however I wasn't blogging then and since he is promoting it again, I wanted to know what you all thought about it. (White) Me Down - Lil' Boosie
Ever since I was a little kid, and I do mean young, I've always wanted to go to Diddy's White Party in The Hamptons (The REAL White Party that cities across America imitiate, they are ok, but I'm sure none touches Diddy's). This year he teamed up with another favorite celebrity, Ashton Kutcher, and raised money for the foundation Malaria No More. There were a few things spotted, Lauren London premiered her pregnant belly (she's roughly 7 months now), Chris Brown performed his own lil' Michael Jackson tribute, Amber Rose's hair isn't blue after-all (could've been a temporary thing), Mariah and Nick recycled their wedding day outfits (ok maybe not, but yeah they're annoying) and naturally rumors continue to fly about Chris Brown and his relationship with Teyana Taylor who reportedly kicked it with him most of the night.

Yay or Nay: Hell of a Night - JFin
Another Detroit, well METRO Detroit, one for you all. Got this in my inbox this morning, and it's by JFin. He's another one of those I came across via Twitter, but never checked his stuff out until today. This joint is called "Hell of a Night" and I believe it will be on his mixtape InFINity [and Beyond] (love the usage of Buzz Lightyear's catchphrase) which drops next Friday, July 10. With that said, Yay or Nay: "Hell of a Night" - JFin.
