It's Over Now - Krupt feat. Natina Reed

It's officially official, Nas and his wife/baby mama to be Kelis have filed for a divorce and VIBE has obtained the official petition.
The rumor had been floating around that the two were getting separated but with Kelis' pregnancy it was brushed off. Apparently Kelis and her attorney Laura Wasser -she has represented Angelina Jolie, Nick Lachey, Stevie Wonder and more- filed for the divorce this afternoon citing irreconciable differences.
Soooo anyone else anticipate a new Nas track this summer?

Bad Day - Asher Roth: UPDATE!!!

Last week I posted the Tweet that Asher Roth said - and is now regretting- about his trip to Rutgers University. Well, he deleted the Tweet- pologies and released an official statement today. Unsurprisingly he says that his team deleted the apologetic tweets in an effort to control the situation - he should hire a new team.
“The twitter situation was an immature attempt to poke fun at an infamously moronic joke. In doing so, I unconsciously stooped to the level of its originator, making it just as bad, if not worse. Pathetic. Lesson learned - nothing good can come from repeating hateful words, regardless of your intentions. Leaving no context in what was being said and being presented through text (no facial or vocal inflection) the sarcasm of the joke (or lack there of) was not properly perceived and left it purely in bad taste. I immediately apologized for my immaturity but the apologies and original post were deleted by my team in an effort to prevent more people from being offended. Unfortunately, the deletion of these statements led several people to believe that my apology was insincere, which is why I have made the decision to release this statement.”

3 A.M. - Eminem

Eminem is known for his out there lyrics and hilarious parodies and the artist's "Relapse" album is vastly approaching its release date. Today the trailer for Eminem's new video was released via his YouTube channel. You may be wondering what artist releases a TRAILER for a MUSIC VIDEO? It's no secret that Slim is controversial and apparently this video is so explicit it is making it's premiere May 2nd on Cinemax at 10 p.m. Now I know you're thinking Cinemax is a movie channel, but from what I've read this video is like a mini-movie. If you don't have Cinemax no worries, I'm pretty sure we'll be seeing it on the web. Check out the"Blair Witch Project"-esque video trailer below.

Boss Lady - Rick Ross

Everyone, well most people, know that 50 Cent and Rick Ross are beefing it out and a couple of months ago, 50 Cent released a video with the biggest boss' Rick Ross' baby mama. In the intro of the video, 50 Cent makes the statement that if you didn't know who she was, you would because you would soon be reading her story. That sent the blogs, magazines, and much of the hip-hop world into questions about whether Fiddy was just saying that or if it were really true.
Well according to XXL Magazine, it's very much true.
Tiallondra Kemp is releasing her book, "Tia's Diary: Deeper Than Rap" online and in bookstores May 20. Why is she writing a book? This is what she told XXL:
The reason I felt that it would be interesting to write a book is because I have had a very big struggle in my life. I grew up without a father, my mom was a single parent and it was very hard for her to raise six kids on her own. Being the oldest, I experienced a lot of things growing up, a lot of challenges in life that I went through. I got married young, I had two kids and after that I ended up getting in a another relationship.

Who cares? I mean she's no Karrine Steffans -the world's most famous grou..VIDEO girl- or even Carmen Bryant -Nas' baby mama who started that historic beef between Nas and Jay-Z- both women actually played some kind of role in hip-hop.

Kemp released the prologue on the book's web site yesterday. In it Kemp talks about the January 21 court date she had with Rick Ross for child support for her third son. Judging from the prologue alone, it seems as though Kemp is just a money hungry bitter baby mama who is looking for some pocket change at the expense of her kid's father. Here's an excerpt from what was posted:
If he just would’ve taken care of his son and made a deal with me for support outside of the courts, it wouldn’t have gotten to this point. But Will had bugged out on me, refusing to help pay bills and rent to the degree that he could. While I literally watched him make millions, I struggled to take care of my three sons, the littlest being his. So I was just trying to get what I was due. I wasn’t asking for anything outrageous—$4000 a month is nothing crazy. Especially when you’re driving around in a Maybach, rapping about how much money you’re making.

I wonder if G-Unit Books is publishing her tell-all.

Yay or Nay: Resolution - Raekwon

Wasn't it Wu Tang who said "Cash Rules Everything Around Me, C.R.E.A.M. Get the Money, dollar, dollar bill y'all?"
Ok that's not really a question because it was their song, but Raekwon the Chef rapped the first verse to this hip-hop classic and is back with another joint. Today's Yay or Nay is "Resolution" by Raekwon.

Prom Queen - Lil' Wayne

Unless you've been under a rock on Neptune, then you all know Lil' Wayne is releasing a rock album. Though they're saying it's a mix of rock and rap- maybe he realized the rap suicide he was committing by even considering an all rock album-, label execs are still cautious about his June 23rd release. Yes, it has been pushed back yet again and from what has been said the label wants to release the Young Money Compilation album at the same time, but that hasn't been confirmed yet.

Production duo Cool & Dre (who have worked with Fat Joe, Rick Ross, Trina, Teairra Mari, and Wale) have produced several tracks for Rebirth and in an interview with MTV Dre even went as far as to compare this upcoming album to Outkast's Aquemini.
It’s almost like where OutKast was when they made Aquemini. It’s still a rap album, but was it really a rap album compared to all the other rap albums at that time? No, they were doing some really creative s**t...

That's some heavy duty stuff to say and in my book puts Cool & Dre on the chopping block if this album fails--which I'm thinking is going to happen. I'm not saying the album isn't going to sell, of course it is because it's Lil' Wayne, but the reception after the release especially with so much dropping this summer is going to be horrible.

But back to this interview, Cool said Wayne put out classic albums....

Name one. Straight Outta Compton is a classic. Illmatic was classic, Ready to Die is a classic, All Eyez on Me...classic, American Gangster is a classic, Speakerboxx/Love Below is a classic. What Wayne album can touch any of those?

Wayne is a mixtape rapper in my opinion and I think it's because he has more freedom to do and say as he pleases without the record and label execs interfering Personally my favorite thing Wayne has ever done was the Dedication Pt. 2; everything he released commercially can't really touch that.

If you want to see if for yourself, peep the interview with Cool and Dre below.

Update: Fame - DMX

So somebody's lying; don't know who it is yet; but XXL Magazine posted on their Web site earlier that DMX's reps deny him having any involvement in the new season of Celebrity Rehab. Currently X is serving a 90 day sentence in Arizona. Pam Pinnock, DMX's rep, told XXL that he won't be on TV anytime soon but he is looking at movie contracts for roles he may take upon his release.
I will say I am slightly disappointed he won't be..imagine how good of a season that would have been with DMX kicking it with Dr. Drew.

Rockin' Robin - Bobby Day

One of my fave bloggers, Cliff Skighwalker, posted this video on his blog and I couldn't help but copy it. Andy Milonakis pretty much hits the nail on the head with this video about Twittering...actually making it look as ridiculous as it might be to a non-tweeter.

Download - Lil' Kim feat. T-Pain & Charlie Wilson

I don't know if you know , or care for that matter, but the Queen Bee is on Facebook.Lil' Kim has a regular profile (not a fan one that still looks like a profile so I guess it doesn't really matter) and posts personal photos, notes, etc. on it. And from what I've heard/been told it's her legit profile, not a fake.
Anyway, Today she posted a new note titled the "Download Remake Challenge:" Apparently her latest ...song...isn't doing too hot on the charts/iTunes and wants the ... fans... to create their own versions to it:
Hey guys!!!

To help launch and promote my new single "Download" featuring T-Pain and Charlie Wilson, I wanna have some fun, and since a lot of people tag me in their videos and songs on here, I wanna make that a little fun.

I'm posting the instrumental to my single Download featuring T-Pain and Charlie Wilson, and I want all the aspiring rappers/singles to remake it, then upload it on Facebook, and tag me in the video!

Download (Instrumental):
http://www.zshare.net/audio/59150411fdbdf3d3/

To download the instrumental:

1. Click Zshare link above
2. Once the page appears, click "Download File" on the media player
3. Wait a few seconds then the downloading link will appear, should say "Click here to Download"
4. Download the instrumental, save it, then record your vocals over the instrumental however you're going to do it.

Rules:

1. You have to use the Download instrumental

2. You have to emulate my lyrics from my song but switch it up and make them your own!

3. When finished, upload the video, title it "Lil' Kim's Download Remake" so I'll know, and then tag me in, then we'll view it.

4. I WANT THE VIDEOS SUBMITTED AT THE SAME TIME TO AVOID COMPLAINING FROM PEOPLE ABOUT SOMEONE HAVING THEIRS POSTED SOONER, AND WHAT NOT. So I'm giving a deadline. The deadline is May 11, 2009! Tag me in all your videos May 11, 2009 to be counted. Not before, not after, May 11, 2009 because I want this to coincide with the release of the video.

Suggestions: For the guys, I suggest you do a response song to my song. For the ladies, I suggest you pick up where my song left off! I want to hear clever word play using computer termonology!

The contest is only on Facebook and as far as what the winner receives? She simply says "Best one will win a special treat from Queen Bee."

...uh huh...

Traffic Stop -Teyana Taylor

Warm weather means different things for different people. For some it means shedding the winter sweaters for tanks and for others it's kicking off the Uggs and Timbs for fresh kicks. If there's one thing that most people can agree on, Spring and Summer are definitely "stunt" seasons and sometimes can be a competition to see who can turn heads the most. Since Detroit is having it's first STEADY warm week of 2009, my song of the day is: "Traffic Stop" by Teyana Taylor. This song has been out for a while, but it screams summer to me.

Party Up - DMX

Word around the web is that DMX has signed up to enter rehab; not a real one but Celebrity Rehab.
Ok, ok maybe they do have real doctors and such, but the show's drug counselor Bob Forrest told Radar that the Ruff Ryder is the first cast member to be announced in the upcoming season. If you forgot what problems Earl Simmons (that's his government for those that don't know) has let's recap:
-Animal Cruelty
-Reckless Driving
-Unlicensed Driving
-Marijuana Possession
-Identity Falsification
-Theft
Mind you some of these are multiple counts. Let's see what Dr. Drew can do!
Who else do you think would be on the show? They should stick Bobby Brown, that'd be interesting.

Like A Boss (feat. Seth Rogen) - The Lonely Island

The SNL dudes are at it again. This video is a couple of weeks old but still funny nonetheless. HAPPY FRIDAY!

I Love College - Asher Roth

Conveniently my buddy Alex just posted about Twitter and he said it needed no introduction but I'm going to give you the rundown for three seconds.
You have 140 characters (equivalent to 1 text message) to say what you need to say.
But wannabe rapper Asher Roth says too much. The rapper who falls asleep in the bread aisle tends is currently at Rutgers Univ. and in tacky behavior made a tweet (that's what it's called when you publish on Twitter) about the girls at Rutgers.

Initial Twit:Been a day of rest and relaxation, sorry twitter - hanging out with nappy headed hoes.
First apology: Totally just making fun of Don Imus - sorry scoot, not tryna be offensive
Final apology: I'm extremely apologetic to any who took offense to my immature, bad joke.

Tatted Up - D4L

My biggest fear about my future is that I will hate my tattoos and want them covered or removed. Well one of the greatest producers/artist of all time just underwent laser treatment to have his tattoos burned off.
A while ago, Skateboard P. aka Pharrell Williams said he was considering undergoing skin grafts to get rid of his tattoos. Apparently Mr. Neptune changed his mind; on the BBC/Ice Cream blog Pharell posted this pic that shows both his arms bandaged up.
This is the caption that was posted:
Laser treatment bitches! Extra crispy.” See, no skin graft here, just pure laser pain. This is our own version of Mythbusters! Laser is the new primer.

If this is the before, I wonder how painful that was.

Yay or Nay: Kicks - Ron Dance

I said I'm trying some new things out on my blog and I'm going to start taking it more seriously. One thing I'm going to try out is "Yay or Nay," once a week I'll post a song and you all can vote...yay or nay. See? Simple. Today's song is from Ron Dance and it's a freestyle...simply called "Kicks." Wanna guess what it might be about?

April 21, 2009

I guess it's only fair to post the legit Beyonce video. Did you REALLY think that was real??
The other one was a nicely edited fake. No matter how much I don't think she's the best ever, I will say that the only way she could sound that bad is if she smoke 10,000 cigarettes at once in the winter while standing in a lake.
Though this version is not the greatest either...

If I Were a Boy - Beyonce

Though this adds to my "Beyonce is overrated" theory, I'm going to assume Beyonce was ill this day...yep.

What kills me is that people are vibing to her like she's doing well....she wasn't, not that day.

Love Story - Big Sean feat. Keely

I never review mixtapes, hardly ever anyway.
But there is so much buzz around Big Sean, I guess I sort of had to, lol. So here's my thoughts on the world's next Big *pun intended* thing from Detroit.

For those who don't know who he is, Big Sean is a rapper from Detroit. Now he's not the average guy rhyming over beats in the basement (do not front like you don't know any.) To make a long story short: After performing for Kanye while he was promoting "Late Registration" at a Detroit radio station; Big Sean was signed to Kanye West's G.O.O.D. Music and Island Def Jam.

I'm about to keep it real with you all, I had "Finally Famous: The Mixtape" on my iPod since it's release in the fall of '07, because a friend put it on there. I did not listen to that mixtape until March 3, 2009.

why?

So many people were hyping him up and I thought, man he's probably just like everyone else, catchy with no substance. I put him on the back burner (and with 2,500+ other songs it was easy to get around).
It wasn't until I heard "Smoke and Drive" with Mike Posner like last Nov. that I started thinking I should listen to his stuff and FINALLY got around to listening to it with the release of "A Matter of Time" by Mike Posner and the Brain Trust. (better late than never!)

With an album release around the corner, I'm going to assume I'm not the only one that hasn't heard Big Sean...yet.
"UKnowBigSean" just dropped April 16 and I shall say I actually like it. You can hear how much he has developed as an artist between Finally Famous: The Mixtape and this mixtape.

Maybe it's the catchy "Getcha Some" or the futuristic "Starstruck" feat. Santigold but there's something about his style that is going to make him not just a one-album guy. (I wonder if it's because both Kanye and Pharrell are endorsing him? :-/ )

But he definitely fits into a package/genre. I always do this, but he is in that Kanye/N.E.R.D./Cool Kids uniqueness genre. Like if Kanye West and N.E.R.D. had a baby it would be Big Sean and the Cool Kids are his half-brothers. That's the best way I can describe his sound. lol

Back to this mixtape, there are 30 tracks on this but about 8 are skits and 1 song is a snippet. I'm really feeling "Supa Dupa," "Desire, Want & Need," "Love Story" and "Million Dollars" (*I love "Who Knows?" too but I don't think that counts since I've been listening to it everyday for a month!)

I'm going to need you all to go back to this lil' rapper from St. Louis by the name of Chingy...now think back to Chingy's album Jackpot (I know it's hard but bear with me) what Chingy tried to do with the Vegas sounds and slot machines, Big Sean successfully does on "Billionaire." My only beef with that song is the sounds are louder than his voice on certain parts.

Also, on some songs he does sound like Drake and it's one song in particular that one of his verses his very reminiscent of one of Drake's on the "So Far Gone" mixtape (forgot which one, sue me..no don't really do that, just saying).

But joints like "Paper Chaser" feat. Jay K. and "Iraq" feat. Dusty McFly make you forget all the bad and focus on the talent and good that's there. On "Tomorrow" Big Sean, sounds JUST like "College Dropout" Kanye and I'm going to assume that's a great thing.

Overall, Big Sean is someone to look out for and you should probably listen to it yourself.

Cooler Than Me - Mike Posner & the Brain Trust

Thursday was the 10th annual Mad Anthony concert at Wayne State University and all I have to say is...

WOW.

That concert was the dopest concert I've ever been to. The headliners were Mike Posner, Big Sean, and N.E.R.D., and that was my first time seeing any of the three perform. The energy from the performers and the crowd was mad crazy.

There was one major FAIL of the night: People were crowd surfing and falling *BTW didn't know Black people (esp. from Detroit) crowd surfed or made mosh pits* Like this one girl went up and when they tried to pass her no one caught her. I almost felt bad for her.

So back to these performers.

Mike Posner (full band is Mike Posner & the Brain Trust) is relatively new, but he has been featured on a few Big Sean joints. If Coldplay and N.E.R.D. were to have a baby it'd be this band. Like the mellowness of Coldplay and the hip-hop-ness of N.E.R.D. Mike Posner IS hip-hop but not a rapper, dig me? I hope that makes as much sense to you all as it did me.

At first his performance was a lil' rocky, but it got better. Him and Big Sean performed "Smoke and Drive" and "Who Knows?" and maybe it was just me, but it was like they were feeding off of each other's energy while they were performing those. It was insane.*Sidebar: quote of the night: Girl: I like Asher Roth too. Guy: He ain't Mike Posner though!*

Speaking of Big Sean, his latest mixtape "UKnowBigSean" was released that same night during his set. His performance was good, too. It was crazy because, there were so many different people there and for the suburbians to be bobbing their heads to him, epic. This one guy standing next to me was like "I don't even listen to rap like that, but f**k it, I'm downloading his s**t."

Then there was N.E.R.D.

I want to marry Pharrell. lol but OMG When N.E.R.D. took the stage that was the most insane, in a good way, performance ever. I seriously suggest if you've never seen them perform you should go. Whether you like their music or not, their performance will make you like them. *I don't understand how you can not like them anyway, The Neptunes? uh yeah*

Let's talk people in attendance. A lot of people I saw there, I've heard of; I guess you can say local celebrities. They're just really good businesspeople and they're all under young.

Like Fli Pelican, y'know "Kill Two Birds with One Pelican?" was holding it down that night, Burn Rubber, Pompous Apparel...and I think everyone should support them all. I have never seen people that hustle or grind as hard as they do, it's bananas.

Do I know them personally? Some.
But real recognize real, and I can see big things happening for all of them.

Like I said, Big Sean dropped his new mixtape UKnowBigSean and overall it's dope, fly, swaggalicious *that's so lame* whatever you wanna call it and I think you should download it from here, or here or here..
There are TOO many places to get this mixtape for you NOT to have it.

Mike Posner & the Brain Trust released their mixtape "A Matter of Time" on iTunes March 1. You NEED to download that one too! My mom is 53 and the only hip-hop she effs with is Tupac and Eminem and if she is humming "Cooler Than Me" and "Evil Woman" you should be too.

That's it for now. Coming Up: UKNowBigSean review.
Later Gators.

What's Going On? -Marvin Gaye

Hola people.

I said I'd update and I am, but today's topic is personal and sensitive to me.

Yesterday, April 10 aka Good Friday, a shooting occurred at Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn, Michigan. Anthony Powell, a 28-year-old male, shot and killed 20-year-old female, Asia McGowan, in the McKenzie Fine Arts building.
As the story is being told:
No one knows exactly the relationship between Powell and McGowan, as I've heard they were nothing more than classmates. Powell was armed with a shotgun and entered the building McGowan was working on a project. He assaulted her, whether sexually or physically remains unknown, and when she tried to escape he shot and killed her. He then dragged her body into room F-111 before taking his own life.
Police had gotten a call and according to the press conference with the Dearborn Police were already near/in the building when the two shots were fired before discovering the bodies.
And yes my heart goes out to both families. I feel for the Powell family heavily because I'm sure they are trying to figure out where they went wrong and if they could have prevented it in any way.

I attend HFCC and was there yesterday before the shooting. It's a crazy world we live in.
The shooting happened between 12:30 and 12:40, and police completely shut down the school.
I left school at 11 a.m. yesterday after class though I was contemplating on staying to finish a project for my English class. The thing is, finishing that project would have let me be in the Fine Arts building during that time but I changed my mind and decided to do it Monday when I have a break.

The first time I got news of a shooting was through a status update on Facebook and by the time I finished reading that status my phone started going bananas with texts and phone calls.

I may not have been on campus at that moment, but the effect is just the same. All I think is I could have been next to this guy, he could have been in my classes, in the caf. line behind me, and that girl could have been me. I'm sad two lives were lost, but glad that more weren't injured.

It's surreal. Last school year, I wrote a story for CMU's student paper; it was my first cover story and it was a localization of the Northern Illinois University shooting. I remember thinking while doing that story, that nothing like that could happen to a school I went to. A little over a year later, here I am; posting this to you and really understanding and feeling what the students at NIU must have felt.

A lot of people keep asking if I am going back to HFCC, and my answer is of course. For the rest of the semester HFCC is about to be one of the safest places to be.

Not to be rude, disrespectful or anything like that, but people die everyday. Whether it's from an illness like Cancer or someones silliness with a shotgun. If I were to live my life in fear of tomorrow I would never learn to appreciate today and that wouldn't make life worth living. So Monday, I'm going to school with a heavy heart and a clear and focused conscience.

...This is Not a Test!
