I'm assuming this is the OU show, not really sure, but it was at one of the "Detroit" shows that Drake caught more than he bargained for while performing, a pair of pink panties to be exact. Drake's reaction is funny because he smells his hand after he drops them. Whoever tossed them had great aim because they landed perfectly, maybe Drizzy will keep his hand closed during performances. Peep what he says.

Music Video: "Over" - Ro Spit

I told myself I wouldn't post anything else even close to related to "Over," (Drake's song that every MC's grandmother has tried to remake). But, Ro Spit shot a video for his version of "Over" and I had to post it (it wouldn't be right if I didn't). Very clean shot video, all Ro, and there are a two things you should pay attention to besides his lyrics:
How dope the not-yet-released Burn Rubber fitted is he's wearing
How dope the cardigan is he's wearing.
The video was directed and shot by Gerard Victor who is very easily beginning to become my favorite local director (he shot Ro's "Renaissance State of Mind" and Elzhi's "Deep" video).

Battle Royale: Over - Drake

In all my blogging history ...

That's cheesy, but I don't think I've ever seen anything like what's going on right now. What am I talking about? Drake released his first official non-So Far Gone, non-Young Money, single "Over" on March 4th ... as in roughly three days ago. Within 24 hours of its release freestyles began to pop up. One by one, rappers took to the beat in hopes of committing lyrical homicide on the Boi-1da produced track. Granted a few rappers have gone in on the "Lemonade" beat (which I still haven't heard the "original" and at this point I don't know if I want to), but no one cared to do it within three days of the song releasing.
 

It's fair to say Boi-1da is definitely getting more recognition for this beat than Drake is getting for his wordplay on it. Now I'm trying something new here, I'm sure this is not going to happen often (or will it) but with all the freestyles coming out I decided to put them on one post as a Battle. What this means, everyone took on the beat, but they may not all be your favorite, so on my Matrix (red or blue pill) which do you choose?


Diggy Simmons: The Young Run has been making quite a buzz for himself after the release of his mixtape "First Flight" back in December and was among the first to tackle this one.


Noah Jones: This New York bred Californian dropped his album 'The Incinerator' last fall and has done tracks with Crooked I and Nipsey Hu$$le.



Young Slapz: From Detroit and one half of the Skigh High Ent. duo, NGC. He has opened for the likes of Wiz Khalifa and next week will be opening for Travis Porter.


P.L.: This Ann Arborian (yes I make up words this way, but who knows it may be real?) has been dropping freestyles faster than Interscope Records dropped Charles Hamilton, it's only natural he did this one.



Young Scolla: His EP, 'Escaping Reality' just dropped not too long ago and he's currently in the studio working on his next project 'Renaissance Dreams.'


Ro Spit: This MC is a lot more than half of Burn Rubber Sneaker Boutique his hybrid 'The Oh S#!t Project' has a lot of people saying: Oh S#!t, Ro can really Spit (totally stole this from someone on Twitter don't remember who but remember seeing it, don't sue me :-) ). He'll be performing at this year's SXSW (along with the other half of Detroit).


Royce Da 5'9: When I got wind of this one, I can honestly say I was surprised. If you don't know who Royce Da 5'9 is you should probably not be on this blog. Bar Exam 3 is releasing sometime soon and I'm prepared.


Now for the real question, who do you think killed it?

Yay or Nay: Say Somethin' (remix)

Not so sure how late I am posting this (like it matters since I've been MIA for a while), but I haven't seen it everywhere. ANYway, we all know Drake and Lupe Fiasco have both been in the studio cooking up their next projects. If you have Lupe's "Enemy of the State: a Love Story" mixtape then you already heard him going in on "Say Somethin" well now there's this remix, that has Drake and Bow Wow on it. (Drake was on the original, BTW) Now I don't listen to Bow Wow enough to know if this is a legit verse that he has done on this track or not, but whoever mashed this together (if it wasn't someone from their camps) has courage because Lupe feat. Bow Wow and Drake kind of has "don't take me seriously" all over it.
But what do you all think? Has Bow Wow finally proven himself worthy and not the little kiddie that rocked an iced out Mickey?

Flicks: Drake's "Successful" Shoot.

Well after the ummm 'video' that is now affectionately known as "Breast I Ever Had" it appears Drake is doing his best to redeem himself. He is currently working on a video for his second single "Successful" which features Trey Songz. This time around the video is shot by Jake Davis and actually judging from the photos looks to be better than the previous one. Peep the stills below.

Where to now - Drake

This guy Iman is perhaps best known for his spoof of Barack Obama as Beyoncé back around the time of inauguration. Well, he never stopped making spoofs and today uploaded this spoof as Drake, for his hit single "Best I Ever Had". I know all brown skinned dudes don't look alike but it's kind of funny that a change in haircut made him go from resembling the 44th President to Young Money's newest compadre.

So it's officially here, Mr. Degrassi's video for "Best I Ever Had" directed by the Louis Vuitton Don, Kanye West. The only reason I think I can tolerate watching this soft porn is because Drake is a looker, lol. Here's Drake's "Best I Ever Had."

Yay or Nay: Best I Ever Had - Ma$e

Harlem World. Bad Boy. Welcome Back.

Those three words should have led you to remember Ma$e (yes I still spell his name with the $ as the S). Ma$e is platinum selling artist known for his animated voice, loud, shiny suits, and turning his back on the industry for the church. Now, a few years ago he tried to do something like a comeback, sans cursing, and dropped the song "Welcome Back." After that welcome, Ma$e fell off the face of the industry again, and went M.I.A. He resurfaced today with his remix to Drake's "Best I Ever Had." I know, major pause on the preacher dropping bars over this of all songs, but Ma$e uses the radio edit that replaces the F-Bomb with "you" repeatedly. Still the underlying sexual message on Drake's part is there and I do wonder if Ma$e is going to try to make a comeback...again. Yay or Nay: Best I Ever Had - Ma$e (love the throwback picture?).

Things We Do - Slum Village

♫ Gucci Mane and OJ Da Juiceman reply to Young Jeezy's "24/23," but not like rappers should. XXL Magazine reached out for comment/response from the two and they simply said "We not feeding into that; we getting money." I know some of you may not be hip to what's happening or why Gucci and Jeezy are beefing in the first place, but remember Gucci's first major hit "So Icey" back in like 2005? Well, Jeezy claims Gucci hadn't paid him sufficiently for his appearance on the track (the irony in his/Oj Da Juiceman's statement to XXL). Then Gucci claimed Jeezy put a hit out on his life and the two haven't been getting along since. But all three are scheduled to perform/be in the same vicinity as each other in Atlanta at Hot 102.7's Birthday Bash this upcoming weekend.

♫ Speaking of Young Jeezy, he, Lil' Wayne, Drake, and Soulja Boy are indeed going on tour with each other this summer. Excuse me, it's a music festival. Yes, yes, it has been confirmed that the quad will headline the America's Most Wanted Musical Festival and the tour dates have been released.Drake told MTV this about what's coming on the tour:

It's definitely moving along well. I think it will be an exciting night for each city that we go to. You got two young guys [and] two guys that have been killing the game for a minute, so I think it will be a dope tour.

I think it's BS that they aren't coming to Detroit ( how do you go from Canada straight to Ohio), but In case you are wondering here are the dates/cities:

Eminem leaked to BET [as reported by MTV] that they were getting the band back together and scheduled to hit the studio soon to begin work on their new album. This will be the groups first album since Proof's murder and Slim Shady told the peeps over at Rap City this:

Right now, my music would probably be the same [if Proof was still alive]. I think this is what Proof always wanted, was for me to go crazy again. My life would be different because I would still have him.

Yay or Nay: The One - Mary J. Blige feat. Drake

Another legend takes the auto-tune challenge; Trey Songz may have gone ham on the king of R&B, R. Kelly for using auto-tune on his mixtape, but I dare someone like Teairra Mari to go ham on the Queen of R&B. Yup, Mary J. Blige' s new single "The One" takes on one of the biggest (and frankly newly annoying) trends in music right now. But wait, there's more, not ONLY does Mary J. jump on the trend train she gets one of the hottest, untouchable (sorry but he is) rappers out there to do some bars on her song, Drake. Is there anything more to say? No? So what do you all think, YAY or NAY: "The One" - Mary J. Blige feat. Drake.

Tell Me Something Good - Rufus & Chaka Khan

♫ Soulja Boy is allegedly going on tour with Lil' Wayne, Young Jeezy and Drake. The rapper confirmed that announcement via his Twitter page. Here's where things get a lil' tricky, Soulja Boy's rep told MTV that he was joining this lineup as well, however a rep from the Young Money /Lil' Wayne camp told them that a concert tour with at least some of the four artists will happen...*My bets on Jeezy not being on it!* But more news from the SOD camp (that's my word for today, camp) Soulja Boy is releasing a Gangsta Grillz mixtape. What's killer (the bad killer not the good killer) about the mixtape? It's called "Follow Me: Gangsta Grillz Twitter Edition," yes the mixtape is dedicated to Twitter, will be released through Twitter first, and he's actually pulling a Yung Berg with this Twitter title. *except I doubt he'll scam his DJ, would YOU mess with DJ Drama?*

♫ So you'd be lying to yourself if you said Drake wasn't a record label's wet dream he's: new, endorsed by rap bigwigs, getting love on the radio, crazy rumors about his romance life and best of all, he's unsigned. Drake reportedly has three record labels on his tip to get him to come to their side, much like a super fly car at an auto auction. Jimmy Brooks is moving too fast for his own speed though, he's already about to be involved in a major lawsuit. Canadian Money Entertaiment (CME...Ca-na-di-an...Canada...) released a "Drake" mixtape through iTunes and there would be nothing wrong with that if a) it weren't unauthorized and b) if it were REAL! The CD was being SOLD on iTunes and Drake and his peeps are filing a lawsuit against the group. A cease and desist letter has been sent to iTunes and according to XXL Drake's manager, Al Branch, had this to say:

This is a straight bootleg, a scandal. We are behind promoting records at radio, but haven’t sold it. iTunes position is that they are store and they stock everything. They have a waiver and as long as people sign it and are responsible for the product they submit, then they go for it.

♫ Ay Remember Sticky Fingaz from the hip-hop group Onyx (group also had Fredro Starr aka Q from Moesha for all y'all uber late 90's babies)? Well he's doing a hip-hop musical, no it's not some uber lame 3 hour show with shiny and sequined dance sequences (how's that for alliteration?) It's a movie told in the form of rap, which would probably make it sound more like Spoken word than anything else. It's going to be released via Lions Gate films (they've done Tyler Perry's joints), and it's also straight to DVD and will arrive in stores July 7, 2009. Some of the stars Mekhi Phifer (I think he really wants to be a rapper, secretly, lol), Omar Epps, Faizon Love, Treach, Ray J and a few others. Peep the trailer below.

*Now I did peep this film on IMDB.com and according to it, it was a 2007 film and has Lamont Bentley (Of Moesha fame as Hakeem) cast as one of the characters. What's weird is Lamont Bentley passed away in 2005, which means that this film had to have been filmed either just before his death or a year earlier. Had to throw all this in because I didn't want any discrepancies about anything*

Successful - Drake Feat. Trey Songz

♫ Drake is about to begin filming the video for his first single "Best I Ever Had" The Canadian Degrassi alum told MTV that he just wants to make women feel special with the video:

The biggest thing about that song is that a lot of women come up to me and say, 'That's my song, because it really makes me feel special.' So I told the directors that were interested that I just want the visuals to coincide with that feeling. I want women to feel special when they watch the visual and say, 'I wish that was me,' or 'I know that feeling.' That's the goal with the video — to be genuine and not sappy. Keep it sexy and keep it together, but still make women smile

IF you haven't heard Drizzy is also working on his debut album and is rumored to have been in the studio with Jay-Z, Kanye West, Lil' Wayne (of course) and some smaller artists (actually the next big thing) Wale and Detroit's own Big Sean (well him working with Wale and Bg Sean are fact more so than rumors). Drake hopes to have the video finished by the time the BET awards air in late June.

♫ T.I. is getting his grind on behind bars and I'm not talking conjugal visits, either. He is set to release a new mixtape entitled, what else but, "A Year and Day." If you remember I posted one of the tracks for the tape that was leaked a couple of weeks ago and features Mary J. Blige "Remember Me." Some of the other featured artists on the mixtape according to MTV are Chris Brown and Kanye West, the tape also features re-realeases of tracks that were featured on the rapper's "Paper Trail" album.

♫ You've seen the video on blogs (including this one before the host site took it down...I'm going to find it again, lol) but Kanye West is NOT a happy camper because "Paranoid" video starring Rihanna was released. According to Ye, the video is "old" and is not the one that was intended for release. Here's what he said on his blog:

IT HURTS ME TO SEE THE OLD AND VERY WRONG VERSION OF THE PARANOID VIDEO GET LEAKED ALL OVER THE NET WHILE I WAS ON AN 11 HR FLIGHT AND COULDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. IT'S JUST FRUSTRATING WHEN THIS STUFF HAPPENS BECAUSE I REALLY CARE ABOUT THE PRODUCT AND SINCE VIDEOS NEVER GET PLAYED ANY WAY YOU MIGHT AS WELL TWEAK THEM AND MAKE THEM AS SPECIAL AS POSSIBLE. THE VERSION THAT GOT LEAKED FROM THE CAMERA PHONE LAST WEEK IS AT LEAST A LITTLE CLOSER TO THE FINAL PRODUCT. THANK YOU EVERYBODY FOR YOUR SUPPORT BUT THAT VIDEO WAS NOT UP TO MY STANDARDS.

Word, I admire Kanye, not many artists care about the quality of product they produce as long as they make money off of it. Spit Your Game - Notorious B.I.G.

A few things happened today,

♫ Though it's Monday the story is just now leaking. Early Saturday morning (like 3-4 a.m. early) outside the Drake concert in Chicago a 21-year-old male was shot in the buttocks. The unidentified victim allegedly got into a scuffle with another gentleman outside the House of Blues when the shooting happened. Hip Hop news Web site Allhiphop.com reported that before the shooting, several fights occurred inside the club during Drake's 45-minute set resulting in attendees being asked to leave and the cancellation of an after-party.

♫ Eminem told BBC radio show host Tim Westwood that Nick Cannon misinterpreted his message on "Bagpipes from Baghdad". If you've been following you read that Nick Cannon is considering going as far as battling Eminem (yes in rapping) for bashing his wife *lol* Mariah Carey and himself in the song. I don't think anyone has ever reacted this way to an Eminem diss and apparently Em didn't think Nick Carey was going to act this way either.

But it's like this, the way I look at it: I had no idea he was gonna take it like he took it. I had no idea Nick Cannon was gonna start wildin' out on me. No pun intended.

Now Slim hadn't read Cannon's blog post (which mysteriously disappeared off his blog the same day) but he doesn't plan on battling Cannon. If it does come to that point, he says "it is what it is."

♫ Asher Roth strikes back at Spencer Pratt...sort of. America's favorite college kid, chatted with MTV and said the least of his worries was Spencer, who just loves to talk and is craving attention.

So I missed the concert at the Majestic Theatre last night, but I didn't need a concert to prove to me his skill.
Young Money affiliate, Drake, released his new mixtape "The Drought is Over" and naturally I had to put the download link on here. Now it does have a few songs from the "So Far Gone" mixtape like "Uptown," "Successful" and of course his newly released single that's not so new "Best I Ever Had." The set up of this mixtape reminds me of Nicki Minaj's "Beam Me Up Scotty" with the "Drake Speaks" interludes. Some of the featured artists are Colin Munroe, Trey Songz and, of course, Weezy F. Baby. That's all I'm going to tell you for now, if you want more you got to download it for yourself.
