Music Video: Too Fake - Big Sean
Big Sean has been getting hit with the leaks lately. Since the spring, a lot of his tracks have hit the internet before they could even be mastered—like the "Made" feat. Drake or the more recent "I Don't Think They Want It" (which hit the net yesterday).
He doesn't seem to let that phase him much as he released the music video for "Too Fake," a track featuring Chiddy Bang off Big Sean's latest mixtape 'Finally Famous Vol. 3'

Review: Finally Famous Vol. 3
You may not have been familiar with him before, but by now you know, Big Sean. After months of waiting and several pushed back dates the somewhat highly anticipated Finally Famous Vol. 3 has finally released.
The mixtape is hosted by the infamous Don Cannon, who may be a big name but definitely throws off the mixtape a bit because he talks so much. In fact, it gets to a point where I can't even focus on the music presented because I'm trying to figure out why Don Cannon won't shut the hell up. But from what I've been told, they're supposed to be releasing a DJ-less copy in a few days (Let the people say #Yes).
I digress.
The mixtape has a variety of features, Bun B., Curren$y, Tyga, Chiddy, Mike Posner, Drake and a slew of others. One of the most anticipated songs on Finally Famous Vol. 3 was "Fat Raps (remix)" produced by and features Chuck Inglish of the Cool Kids. It also features, Asher Roth, Chip the Ripper, Dom Kennedy, and Boldy James. Personally, not a fan of the song, I don't think there has ever been a song that I really like that has had more than four artists on it. It makes the song too busy and it's impossible to really focus on what's being said and who's saying it.
*Edit: I was wrong, Binary Star's "K.G.B." ... I like.
I like the fact that Big Sean does keep it Detroit, aside from the namely recognizable performers I previously mentioned, he enlists the help of his Finally Famous comrade SAY IT AINT TONE (you kind of have to capitalize his name) on the witty and entertaining "My Closet," Key Wane, WrighTrax and Maybach Music Group's The Olympicks all lend producing talents on the mixtape. Even the mixtape's cover was shot by a Detroit photographer (Dante Marshall) and designed by a local graphic designer (Tommey Walker) who both have worked with him—and plenty others—before.
There's one more talent that I haven't mentioned and that would be Suai on "Almost Wrote You a Love Song". This is probably my favorite track on the mixtape, Big Sean is a garnish to an already great song (Suai released this a minute ago sans Big Sean). They've shot the video for this (maybe they know just how great this song is too), so I'm kind of anticipating on seeing that. Suai has a great voice and Big Sean does his thing lyrically. There was an alternate version released as well, kind of doper than the one on the mixtape.
Final Thoughts: 3 out of 5.
I've listened to this a few times all the way through, the tracks are arranged well and the transition (without Don Cannon's voice) is very smooth from track to track. Production is good, though I think I liked UKNOWBIGSEAN's production more, Key Wane and the Olympicks definitely shine on this one. It's not a mixtape full of features and while some features aren't that strong (see: "Fat Raps" above) others excel like "Ambiguous" featuring Mike Posner. I still feel like Big Sean is holding back and could be so much better than what he is (hard for some of you to believe I'm sure) but hearing "High Rise" definitely has me convinced it's more there. Overall, it's a solid mixtape and good to hold us over until the album's release.

What You Doing? (Bulls#!ttin') - Big Sean
You may remember Dante Marshall posting this photo of Big Sean while they were down in Florida (Miami if my memory recalls me correctly). Anyway, there's this infectious question and answer that have been going around and Big Sean can be cited as the source of creation ... F**k you doing? Bullsh*ttin.
First performed at the XXL showcase in New York a couple months back, "What You Doing?" has been infecting people everywhere and has even began to hit airwaves. Soon, Mr. Finally Famous himself will be releasing the video for "What You Doing?" and this trailer dropped to let fans in on what to expect. Directed by Dante Marshall and produced by Michigan's own The Olympicks. It's safe to say Big Sean is not "Bullsh*ttin'"

In The Cut - Wiz Khalifa
So here's a little recap on Schoolz Out presented by Finally Famous. I just realized I cut the part out about Wiz's performance but all I said was I don't listen to him (like at all) but his performance of "Kid Frankie" and "Good Dank" were definitely dope. His energy was crazy and I didn't leave the Majestic hating him, at all. Enough chatter peep my thoughts on the show, some (horribly shot) show footage and my thoughts on people's after-thoughts.

What You Doing? - Big Sean.
I guess you can consider this a part one of two on Schoolz Out.
Thing is, it's not even about Schoolz Out.
I'm an observer by nature and often times if I plan to review a show or speak anything on it, I pay close attention to the crowd and the reaction.
People let you know the most about a show, the performances could be flawless but if a crowd is not reacting the show is a failure.
Last night, Schoolz Out was bananas (No Donkey Kong), you wouldn't think that the event was announced a week ago, wall to wall was packed with people.
One thing I wish people would learn is show etiquette, so I guess these are my five rules to events.
1) You are not too cool to dance: At EVERY show you have the girls that are too pretty to dance in fear they'll sweat out their Remi Velvet and MAC made faces and the guys with the "I'm too fly for this sh*t" attitude. If you're going to be like that why go? People like that bother me for the simple fact many are disguised as haters not all of them but a lot of them. They'll spend the night in the corner whispering about the show, saying the music was wack, complaining about seating, talking about people as they walk past and then speak when they're in their face. They really bring down the show and in the end they try to figure out if they can get an autograph.
2) Who you know doesn't matter: I saw this so much at the Mike Posner/Big Sean show I helped with in February and again last night. The thing I want people to realize is no matter how much you like them or are a fan of them or if you checked them out while you were at Target, they're local artists who know a lot of people. So while you may have shared a box of crayons in kindergarten with them, the next person shared their sandwich. Everyone can't get a backstage hookup and many people don't even deserve the hellos they're getting (those would be the people who only come around when it benefitted them). Truth of the matter is, CLOSE friends, family, the people they do business with or they plan on smashing/partying with at the end of the night are the ones that are going to be taken care of. It's nothing personal, strictly business.
3) Smoker's etiquette: While Michigan has a ban on smoking in clubs and bars and such last night a few people sparked up. Though I hate smelling like someone's pipe, if you are allowed to smoke in a venue by all means be respectful. This means do not blow smoke rings in the face of the person next to you and try not to burn me with the tip of your blunt as you hack up half your lung because you can't handle the purp you're toking on. Physically respect the people you're smoking around if you're not going to mention to them that you're sparking up.
4) There's a time and place: It's true you never know which moment is going to be YOUR moment, but sometimes just enjoy yourself. I'm used to going to events and coming back with mixtapes or fliers or hearing of someone new, usually I'm pretty ok with that. I do think there is a time and place for all that though; you can judge an event and know how you should approach it. Schoolz Out was just that, the perfect way to end the school year, just to relax, chill and enjoy the music. It really wasn't the place to hand out your mixtape and give a quick bio of yourself. Nine times out of ten, the person you're speaking to, isn't listening and is just trying to enjoy the show. Learn to recognize body language, sometimes conducting business at events is inevitable even when you're off the clock, word to Six. Don't try to hog a lot of time, get the necessary contact information and follow up the next day. Sweet simple and less stressful.
5) Respect the floor space: At events like this where capacity is hit, your personal space belongs to the person to the left, right, front and back of you. In short, you have none. Understand that I, just like you, don't want to be stuck in a square barely breathing in fear my breasts are going to push the gentleman in front of me over. I'm just like you, here to see artists I like and just have a good time, nobody wants to pick a fight with you and giving every person trying to walk past (whether they are trying to do their job or not) a hard time is not ok and makes you look like a tool. So, stand quiet, chug one if you're of age and try to enjoy yourself and if the bumping gets TOO much for you, just slip out to the back of the crowd, it's that easy.

Music Video: Okay
This past week these two guys' names have been floating heavily around in my day to day conversations and yet again something new from Big Sean and Chip Tha Ripper (and GLC too) ... The video for "Okay". Now if you got the hard copy of UKnowBigSean then you probably heard this song because it's the last one on the mixtape, if you downloaded the digital you weren't so lucky. The video was directed by Davy Greenberg and is what I like to call #dope, simple and basic with clean shots, yet dope nonetheless. Peep it: "Okay" - Big Sean feat. Chip Tha Ripper and GLC.

Won't Be Long - Big Sean
After a couple of years in the making Detroit rapper (and G.O.O.D. music/Island Def Jam artist) Big Sean is starting to make his debut as a newcomer in the music scene. This year Sean is one of XXL's Freshman 10, and if you follow hip-hop/rap at all you know this is a big deal. Peep his freestyle video below for XXL and supa dupa congratulations to him on the honor.

Yay or Nay: Leomande - Big Sean
After the release of "Million Dollars" video, Big Sean tweeted the song would be the last of the old things he was putting out. He's staying true to his word, the Detroit local released this video yesterday, it was directed by Dante Marshall (who is one of my favorite photographers). Finally Famous Vol. 3 is supposed to be released sometime in February and his album is supposed to be dropping sometime this year. Yay or Nay: "Supa Dupa Lemonade" - Big Sean.

Not too long ago Big Sean had an unfortunate incident with the leaking of a video for "Rollin" that he didn't like. Well, that's in the past and today the Detroit native premiered his video for "Million Dollars." I'm digging the concept of this one and the angle and shot variation is cool as well. Yay or Nay: Sex With My Ex - Jwan
First Yay or Nay of 2010 (be excited). Today's song comes from
the Finally Famous camp by way of Jwan. Currently Jwan has been working on his upcoming mixtape 'Me & My Band' and from what I've been told that's getting ready to drop sometime soon. What's interesting (to me) about this track is that it's a R&B track, and I can honestly say I wasn't expecting it to be. Did I know he could sing? yes. Was I expecting an entire song of him singing? no. I am anxious to see what the mixtape is going to be like. Many artists can't pull off varying between singing and rapping, do you think Jwan can?

Since You've Been Gone - Day 26
So while I was out, two mixtapes I had kind of been waiting on dropped.
KR's 'Amnesia' and Pat Piff's 'Hungry as a hippie'.
KR was NOT kidding when he said 'Amnesia' would be finished within a week of me posting his leaks, because a couple of days later...I was e-mailed a link to download his mixtape.
It's dope, I love his style and my favorite track would have to be the cover of "Maybach Music" featuring Dizze and JFin (Fin's his lil' brother BTW). The beat on "Burn" reminds me of an early 2000's rap track (can't think of which one but I think it reminds me of a Ruff Ryders joint..IDK). If you're expecting this to be just like Fin's 'Infinity and Beyond' you fail. Though there are some similarities their deliveries are different.
CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD KR's 'Amnesia'
After one pushback, Pat Piff FINALLY released 'Hungry as a hippie.' The reason I like Pat Piff is because his delivery and style is so different from a lot of the rappers I've heard. I know him and Big Sean rapped together back in their Cass days, and yes they're both talented (have you heard 28 Grams Later?), but I couldn't imagine them being a rapping duo because of their styles.
Anyway, the features on this tape are dope and include some local faves like Mike Posner, Big Sean, and Earlly Mac. From "So Round" with it's Arabic inspired back beat to the previously leaked "Despicable Me" Pat shows off his own skill as yet another talent from the Finally Famous camp.

Said it once, twice, three or four times maybe, but Finally Famous does not revolve around Big Sean (surprising to some of you). A lot of these guys are talented rappers as well who so happen to be friends (emphasis on this word since many people forget what friends are) with a talented rapper that just so happens to be signed. I've been away for only 3 weeks, but a lot of dope leaks have come about (including Jay-Z's BP3 which had to change release dates, but w/e) and this one by Finally Famous' JWan leaked maybe a week or so ago. It's called "You" and was produced by Detroit's own Bei Maejor (who has produced hits for Trey Songz, LeToya Luckett, and Chrisette Michele). The other is called "I Promise" and was leaked close to 2 weeks ago. (told you I was behind) What do you think about it? Feeling it? loathing it? Sound off below.

House Party - Earlly Macmillion
House Party
Who's Fli like a Pelican and Finally Famous? That would be Earlly Macmillion, a Finally Famous and Fli Pelican Music Group artist. By now, you should be familiar with Big Sean and if you downloaded UKnowBigSean (like I suggested you do) then you heard Earlly on both "Mr. Incredible" and "Hollywood" (both tracks produced by recently signed Michiganders The Olympicks). Earlly is more than a feature rapper (you know the ones that can't hold their own but kill on everyone else songs?), Party Boy will be dropping this fall and what better time to get to know him. Introducing: Earlly Macmillion
Name: Earlly Macmillion (or simply Earlly Mac)
Role: Rapper
Affiliation: Fli Pelican and Finally Famous.
Alex Washington (AW): Who is Earlly Mac?
Earlly Mac (EM): Earlly Mac can be defined as an innovator of fun that conveys his artistry through what we call rap. Earlly mac is also a die hard fan of Detroit in all aspects, and some would say he's a silly ass n***a.
AW: How did you get into rapping?
EM: I got into rapping, just by being surrounded by it all the damn time. You know growing up in Detroit during the 90's, there were only a few things introduced to you, and rap was one of them.
AW: Who are some of your inspirations?
EM: I feel guilty when I get asked this question because, as of recent, there aren't any inspirations for me musically. There are outside incentives for doing what I do. But inspirations? No.

AW: What makes you different from other rappers?

So below I pulled fliers for the 4 most popular events that I just wish I could attend, 3 are happening this week in the 313 and 1 is in the A. What're you going to?

Yay or Nay: Finally Famous edition.

Finally Famous. Chances are if you're in Detroit you've heard of them. Maybe you've been to one of their parties or you've seen Big Sean perform in concert. There are a few people that would say Finally Famous rides Sean and that none of them know how to do anything (lie if you want, but you've heard these rumors/claims as have I). Well that's not really true. I've been slacking a lot and I've meaning to post these for a minute, and I got an e-mail today with another track so I decided to do one BIG Yay or Nay. Below you'll find 6 tracks from some of the fellas of Finally Famous. Some have other responsibilities with FF, but they still drop a bar or 16. What do you think? Do you think that they are skilled enough to stand on their own? or without Sean will they fall? YAY or NAY: Finally Famous edition.

A Matter of Time - Mike Posner: The Signing
Ok so everyone heard the news that Mike Posner signed with J Records/Sony. Well on his managing company's blog they posted this video of him signing the contract (and breaking a champagne glass). Very cool thing for him, seeing as he got a deal off of one mixtape. still weird, because Mike Posner was not only the first hip-hop/pop musician that I had interviewed, but the subject of my first interview for MichiganHipHop. ANYway, Congrats and Kudos and well wishes to him.

Rising Up - The Roots
Maybe you've seen the commercials on BET about it's new show "Rising Icons". Do you know that BET, Complex, and Grey Goose have a contest for Local Rising Icons?
If you didn't know that, then I bet you REALLY didn't know that two of Detroit's own (and favorites) Big Sean and DJ Mo Beatz are both in the running for this, I guess, honor. The winner gets to share the stage with the likes of Chrisette Michele, Keri Hilson and The Dream on the Sept. 8, BET special. Now here's the tough part, picking your favorite between the two. Shadyville's DJ Mo Beatz spins for FM 98 WJLB, has DJ'ed around the world and just so happens to be Big Sean's DJ. Now Big Sean is signed to Kanye's G.O.O.D. Music Label and Island Def Jam and he just released the official video for his buzz single "Getcha Some." I guess if you're really determined you can use two different computers and multiple e-mails to vote. They are the only two representing Detroit and in my personal opinion they BOTH deserve the opportunity.
VOTE FOR BIG SEAN AND/OR DJ MO BEATZ HERE.
